Edgefest 2019

Daddy spent the day with Pastor Lance - and Jillian too - right here on his back porch, pretty much using the whole day to work on the script for "Holly."  We've made some changes, and I don't think we're 100% done, but we're fairly close to having it all complete.  The weather was very nice today, although overcast.  It was cool, and for the entire week it's been forecast to rain tonight, and rain heavily.  Despite this gloomy forecast, we had hope and a bit of faith that everything would work out for the trunk or treat event tonight at Edge ATA.  And sure enough, the rain mysteriously stayed just north of us, and just along enough to have this event.  It was remarkable favor with the weather, as there was  a lot of concern for the event earlier.

So you can see here, Madison came to the event, and she was dressed as Alice.  Her friends from ATA were there, but she also invited a few other friends as well from school.  One of those friends Daddy picked up on the way, a friend named Sophia who you can see dressed as a witch below.

The other invited friend met us there, and wore that wolf man mask for the entire event.  I literally never saw her face once.  It was like Auggie from "Wonder," only with a wolf man mask on!

Bart and Chris hosted a pretty packed event tonight, and all the parents did an outstanding job with their decorated trunks, which we'll get to in a bit.  The costumes were all fantastic too, including this mother-son duo, a kid dressed as Bob Ross and his mom dressed as a painting.

The cars were all decorated too, and they were all fantastic, and over-the-top.  This Wizard of Oz one below was Daddy's favorite, the winner for the evening.

There was also the somewhat mandatory "Stranger Things" car, which you can see below as well.

As per usual, the event begins with kids doing "confidence board breaking," where they all do some exercises, and learn how to properly beat up a punching bag with confidence.

After the punching bags, it's time to break some boards in half!  This is something Madison did four or five years ago, and how she started out here at Edge ATA.  She came here to check it out, all dressed up in her costume and ready for a costume party.  Along the way, she did some kicks and board breaking, and thought she'd try out the martial arts classes too.  This event was the gateway Madison went through to experience some martial arts training, and of course now she's a blue belt.

I believe Bart and Chris were going to drop this portion of the event, and just do the trunk or treat parts - but Daddy mentioned this to them, how it was where Madison first tried proper punches and kicks.  And I think that's why they kept it in - it's decent advertising for their studio.  Here's a picture of Madison with her two invited friends to the event.

The girls had a good time, and as you can see, there were a lot of people here tonight, and again, the weather was just perfect.  They all had their bags, and they went from car to car, playing games and getting a lot of candy.

There was a lot of creativity on display, and a whole lot of people showed up for the event too, which was great.  We parked next door alongside a nearby road, there were so many of us.  The kids had a great time, but so did the adults.  In fact, a few of us were actually also breaking boards too!  Yes, that's right, Daddy and a few other grown-ups were breaking some pretty thick boards with some palm strikes.  We got to keep our boards as souvenirs, just like always, bringing them home to show off our feats of strength!

Anyway, it was a nice night and one full of favor.  We dropped Sophia off at her house, and then got home in time to watch "Monsters, Inc." with some popcorn, snuggling together on the couch.  Despite the away time that Mommy has had lately, we've still managed to do a lot of nice things together, and certainly not miss out on this tradition here.
