Today was our annual office Thanksgiving, one that goes back quite a few years now. It started out as something informal around the office, where some of our coworkers would come by with a dish they've prepared and we'd all sit around and eat and socialize a bit, and then get back to work again.
This year, we had thirty or forty people here, each bringing some food. We moved things out to the recreation room, lining up those long tables to place food items on, and there was a bit of everything brought along. There were three different types of turkey, including Josh's annual crock pot tradition, as well as the Barrett's new smoked turkey that was really, really good. The Quick family brought a turkey and their world famous cheese noodles. Our friend Craig from Australia brought a few things that delighted Nana, as she's from Wales, and the foods there tend to mirror those in Australia somewhat. The dessert item he brought made us forget some of the other dessert items there. Mommy brought her sweet potato casserole, which completely vanished. Thankfully, Daddy gets to try some of that on Thursday when it is Thanksgiving.
We all gathered in this large circle, and gave thanks. It was a very pleasant occasion, with friends and family coming by to enjoy each other's company, and sample all kinds of tasty foods. Madison was excited to be able to come this year, as she's not in school this week. She and a few of the other kids were over there playing Thanksgiving Tetris, although she was holding out for another round of UNO this year. Her wait paid off: she brought the cards, and started a small round or two, which grew in size to the legal ten person limit. I've never played with ten people before, but Pastor Lance, Josh, Chris, Mary Shannon, Jovanna, Madison, Calvin, Joey, Elaina, and Sean were all there for a few hilarious and pretty loud games of UNO. Madison and Daddy each one a hand, but really everyone is a winner at the end of this sort of game. It was good fun!
Tonight we got back to taekwondo, and it was pretty quiet there, as many families were off for Thanksgiving break already. Madison was so good though - no less than three instructors came by to compliment me on Madison's great progress and form. She's doing so well!
We got home, and of course it was Taco Tuesday. Somehow, we made room for at least one taco, although Madison ate more than that. It was nice to have Nana and Ba-Ba with us. They'd been shopping with Mommy today, off on a tour of Goodwill, with a few pick-ups along the way. They had a pleasant day, one that ended with all of us sitting together to watch "The Santa Clause" in the great room. The final Christmas tree is nearly done - Daddy ran out of energy today to finish it, but we'll tackle it tomorrow before Thanksgiving day.
It was a nice day today. Daddy didn't take any pictures, as we were busy with the food distribution, setting up tables and chairs, and just having a nice time together. It was a nice time, and we won't forget it, actually.
Tonight we continued reading, and then said our prayers of Thanksgiving. There is a lot to be thankful for, as always!
