Remember, Remember

We made a nice trip down to Norcross today for some early Christmas shopping at "Taste of Britain." It happens to be Guy Fawkes Day.

Remember, remember, the 5th of November
The Gunpowder Treason and plot ;
I know of no reason why Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot
.

The only reason I know this for the masks everyone wears, and perhaps this little song above.  Madison's grandma knows the song, of course, and the traditions associated with it.  It was a close shave, and people have been celebrating with gratitude ever since.  We were at this British novelty shop, and picking up a few things to celebrate as well, but mostly some material for Christmas gifts.  We're having some pork pies soon though - and Christmas pudding too!

On the way home, Mommy and Daddy had a lunch date at a pizza place that had gluten-free pizza.  The two of us had a nice meal together before doing some grocery shopping, and lo!  There were plenty of holiday items there from stollen to pfeffernusse.  We got ourselves a lot of cookies, and have things set up very nicely for the holidays.

It has gotten darker earlier, the result of Daylight Savings Time.  This morning was nice, the feeling of "sleeping in" a bit, although we weren't technically sleeping any more than usual.  It was just that things have shifted, and it feels like we're sleeping longer.  I'm not going to complain about it, at least until six months from now, right?

Tonight we watched "Coat of Many Colors" again, at the request of Madison.  We were in the mood for a Christmas movie, and this wasn't technically a Christmas movie, although it starts out at Christmas time in Dollywood.  Madison is just wanting to watch these movies again, so we got the popcorn ready and sat on the couch together, enjoying it once again.  We like this movie, just picking it up last year.  It seems that Dolly has sort of worked her way into our lives a bit, and I'm sure there'll be a few more influences to come, maybe in our destinations or music we listen to.

So it seemed later tonight when we went to bed, but that was all right.  We read together at bed time, and said our prayers for the nation.  It's a big day for voting tomorrow, and there's a lot going on.  It'll be great to have a little peace from phone calls and commercials and signs, but that's a sign of a healthy democracy, so there's that.  The bad side of things of course is corruption and nasty campaigning, and this seems to increase each year.  We've had more people early voting this year than ever before, so at least the people are using that power that we've been given.  Hopefully things will turn out well.
