Madison signed up to join a team for a big Dodge Ball tournament, which you can see above. This would be one of the last things that Daddy would voluntarily do in school, or perhaps even now, so you can imagine how impressed we are that Madison is not only signing up for this, but also genuinely enjoying it. Her team name is also something pretty unusual:
They called themselves the Fire Breathing Rubber Duckies. You have no idea how proud I am of my daughter right now for this. As for their performance, the team didn't do as well as hoped, but there was not a trace of disappointment on my daughter's face: she had the greatest time, telling her dodge ball war stories afterwards, a sparkle on her eye as she talks about near misses, or that one time she nailed a boy who was trying to catch the ball she threw - but he dropped it, and the crowd erupted into cheers.
It's so good to see her doing so well in school. And afterwards, she was off to the dojo, to add more confidence to the mix. She's working towards that next belt soon, the camouflage belt. Daddy had a conversation with Bart, who runs the dojo with his wife, and was excited about the idea of a belt ceremony around Christmas time. If anything, just to see them wear Santa hats as they do various martial arts moves.
This inspired us to watch "Jingle All the Way" tonight, which I am not ashamed to say I love watching each year. We had our popcorn and snuggled on the couch together, getting ready for the Christmas season. Howard Langston may have missed his son's belt promotion, but by gum, Daddy won't be missing Madison's next belt upgrade! You don't mess with a Fire Breathing Rubber Duckie. You just don't!
