Ol Pumpkins

We had to say goodbye to a few of our pumpkins today, and I sort of like this tradition of leaving them in the woods like this.  They look a little weathered, but perfect in this fall setting out there.  I prefer this to the ol' heave-ho into a garbage bag.  They're organic, and nature can take care of things.  In fact, I found the stems from last year's pumpkins nearby, a reminder of what's to come.  This guy above is going to leave behind a tremendous stem, isn't he?  Anyway, I love these photos for some reason!

It was a quiet day today.  We had plans for this or that, but ultimately stayed home.  For one, Mom wasn't up to making the drive we had originally planned.  And honestly, I don't think I was either.  Maddie passed along a little sore throat and cough to Nate and myself, and I've been feeling a bit down.  So we stayed home today, and did some straightening up, and some resting after yesterday's intense work with the Edgefest event.  Maddie was over at Nate's house for the entirety of the day, so Mom and I were working on a few things around the house, one of them being getting all the costumes ready for tomorrow at KidPak, which should be different but fun.

Tonight we watched a few things, including a 1999 version of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," a made for television version of the story that we enjoyed.  Of course, the story is personal for us given my ancestry.  This came out the same year as the Tim Burton version of the story, which is quite different than the source material.  The one we saw tonight is somewhat faithful to the story, expanding on a few things.  But we enjoyed it nonetheless, and I enjoyed it even more while munching on a bowl of Count Chocula!

Maddie had gotten home and we were watching a small snippet of an old Abbott and Costello show where Lou Costello briefly meets the Creature from the Black Lagoon.  That's a movie I'll be watching this week, I think, finally getting up the courage to see some more of these old school black and white horror movies.  The other one I want to see is "Bride of Frankenstein."  Last year I got to see the original big three, Dracula, Wolfman and Frankenstein - plus the Mummy.  This week we'll add a few others to the mix, catching up on these original horror movies from so long ago.

We got to sleep early tonight, getting some rest for the weary bones.  We read of course, a few pages from "Jingo," and then

Sleepy Hollow, David Pumpkins, rotting pumpkins, rest day, day with Nate, costuming, Count Chocula, Abbott and Costello and the Creature from the Black Lagoon... updates coming soon...
