Maddie started college today, and it was a really nice day for it too. Here are the students, posing outside together in one of a few group shots that were taken today. Maddie is lower and to the left.
It was a nice morning. It was largely filled with introductions of staff and some coffee and Chick-Fil-A biscuits too. At one point, Pastor spoke to all the students, welcoming them to a new year. I was introduced at one point too, which was fun - I was formerly introduced as a "freaking legend," which was highly amusing. Anyway, here are a few pics from the morning orientation session, including a few moments where students were introduced to different "labs," which is basically a word to describe the different ministries that they can learn more about. Of course, I was over by the children's ministry area, but Maddie was checking out the marketing area.
It was a fun time for Maddie. She had some Mexican food over at the North Campus afterwards, joining the others for the closing of Orientation Day, and then getting back to the Main Campus to join Mom and I. We were in the midst of a meeting with a nutritionist online, and that was productive: we're busy doing a lot of detoxing in this season, although this past week was probably a little bit of a wash with the visit to the Coca-Cola Museum. Still, overall, we've kept up with the regiment of daily supplements and so on, and we're adding even more as we move forward here, so much that we need a little app on our phones that has an alarm on it to remind us of times to take this or that.
I got my walking in this afternoon, and after that it was time to head over to taekwondo for a bit. Maddie did well with some instructions for the class, leading them with some kicks. She did so well that Master Edge wants her to return Thursday to speak to the younger kids about that. Maddie was practicing for that a bit on the way home.
Tonight we were a little tired, but we plugged in an ancient movie, "The Dark Crystal," just because we've been in that frame of mind lately with old Jim Henson projects. I hadn't seen this movie in many years, but still remembered a good bit of it, including all kinds of dialogue. We enjoyed the world-building, the whole genre, and the audacity of the project - it's so unique. And it's pretty cool to see some of the things used in this movie, safely preserved down at the Atlanta Puppetry Center.
Afterwards, we were back to the Discworld, and this part was hard to put down - we've arrived at the end of "Men at Arms." We didn't finish the book, but we did discover that Dr. Cruces is the villain of the story, and that poor Cuddy the dwarf is lost to us. And we now know that Carrot is certainly the rightful heir to the throne. What we don't know is Constable Angua's fate, but we will certainly discover that tomorrow night as we finish up. It's been a good story.
We said prayers after that, and then it was time for some sleep! Just a fun note here before going to bed, but I've been setting all the 150 psalms to music using AI, and some have been a little more challenging lately because of their length. But I have just 17 left - I'm currently on Psalm 107, and it's somewhat of a sea shanty that's turned out rather well.
Okay, time for some sleep. New school schedule to get used to here, but it's going to be great!
