Maurice Raving

This week we were looking at the story of "Beauty and the Beast," and the Wednesday that follows is usually some supplemental sort of message that goes with it.  Typical Daddy thought:  why not take that meme about "raving Maurice," and do a mad lib with it?  Daddy went out and got a bunch of glow-sticks, and we'll turn the lights off and have a little rave party there in the classroom.

Whoa!  Slow Down Maurice!  Okay, maybe not that much of a party.

We got an email from one of Madison's teachers about a missed homework assignment, which is a first.  We never get that.  The teacher was reluctant to send it, because Madison never gets an email like this.  But because she sends it to everyone's parent who misses, she sent it to us.

So we had a conversation with Madison today after school.  And as predicted, she was in tears.  We weren't yelling or anything, but she knew she had disappointed everyone on the planet!  Of course, not at all.  We were just suggesting different ways to keep better organized, and lo, it was discovered that her study sheet - that she needed tonight -was left at school.  Daddy and Madison drove back to the school to get it - fortunately, Mr. Reed was still there, and we were able to pick it up.  Crisis averted.  But the entire time, Madison was remorseful about the entire situation.  And again, we weren't upset or angry or anything at all.  In fact, there's this slight - and I emphasize slight - bit of an interesting feeling Daddy has.  Like, okay, he gets to talk to Madison about changing her behavior here or there.  Because he doesn't usually have to do that.  She's so automatic pilot with grades and behavior, and really an ideal student at this point.  But clearly, with organization there needs to be some slight tweaks, as middle school is approaching, and all of these deadlines sort of fly at you from all kinds of directions.  So we had that conversation today, and all was well afterwards.  She studied hard tonight, and I think she'll be fine.

It got cold today.  Really cold.  Spring is not here yet, and we've been so accustomed to the gradually warming temperatures that this harsh reminder is somewhat like a cold slap across the face!

Madison finished her enrichment class project, these sunbeams that she tries to describe to us.  I think she has one more enrichment class to go, and we'll take advantage of that soon enough.  She loves, loves, loves art.  She'll be there one more time, no problem!
