Egg Decorating

Tonight was our opportunity to decorate some eggs, so we got the tablecloth out and got to work with the dye and the eggs and the creativity.  This year, we were trying a few things that didn't quite work out, but there were also some surprises as well.  As a medium, a boiled egg out of the refrigerator isn't ideal, but there's a whole lot of forgiveness in the process.  Generally, what's expected is a few different colors, preferably pastel.  Of course, we try and add some humor or take one or two a bit overboard in the experimental.  Like this one, for instance:

This was not where we started with this egg, but hopefully it turned out looking like rough surf and a sunrise in the background, with your typical seagull silhouette in the sky there.  Madison was trying some stickers in the meantime:

She dyed this one yellow, and then added a carrot.  It turned out pretty cute!  We also had some of those white crayons that let you mark invisible areas until things are dyed, and then you see the white scribblings you did.  Daddy tried some of this out with some clouds:

We spent quite a bit of time doing the eggs tonight, which is always fun to do.  We've been doing this for many years now - here's a picture of one of Madison's first times coloring eggs:

You can read about that day - April 1, 2010 - right here.  That was eight years ago.  Amazing.

Anyway, the rest of the day involved Daddy setting up for the Easter Festival tomorrow.  And recovering from illness still.  Hopefully the wheezing and coughing (and fever) will stop by tomorrow, because Daddy will be in that Easter Bunny costume with lots of kids, and a bit of heat, I suspect.  Today was really windy and cool, but tomorrow is supposed to be perfect.  Hopefully our event will be that way too, although there's always a bit of trepidation about this sort of event.  All this competition from parents and kids battling for enough eggs.  May every child get what they need.  We have extra eggs for the ones that might not, or the ones that aren't able to.  It's just a lot of chaos.  But Madison is excited to go, and it'll be a nice day for this sort of thing.  Additionally, there are two other campuses doing the same exact thing, so that should help with reducing our numbers somewhat.  It's going to be a huge day for eggs.

Later on, we'll take a break from bunnies and eggs.  It'll be good to have a clear division between all that and the true purpose of the weekend.  Sunday morning's service will be good, a reminder of the story of the resurrection.  It'll be good.
