Queen Glitter and the Cat from Outer Space

Here's Queen Glitter and a few of her royal subjects.  Actually, Madison is not a citizen of Glitterland just yet - the Queen is visiting from her native land, flying her to Georgia just to speak to the kids about reading books.  Oh, and she does a few magic tricks as well.  And yes, there are stories to tell.  Madison sat with friends from school - they enjoyed her performance quite a bit.  And when all was said and done, the children all received glitter on their noses.  This is proof that you've been to see the Queen.

This was the first of several library appointments we have this summer, fun things to do at the local library.  Tomorrow, there is a mini-planetarium or something.  I'm still kind of fuzzy on the details there, but had to sign Madison up for that as it is certainly more educational.  Daddy has to work, but Mommy will be taking Madison there in the afternoon.

When done, we picked up several books for the reading program.  Madison is chugging along at a vigorous pace, reading in as many books as she can.  She genuinely enjoys reading, which is a delight for all of us, of course.  She's got a ways to go to reach her seventy-five book goal, but at this rate, it might not take as long as we all anticipated!

This morning, we went to tennis camp again, where Madison did very well with her backhand this time.  She's been getting better and better with her skills, which is great to see - she can volley that ball back and forth, within reason of course.  The weather outside has been overcast in the mornings, which is ideal for all of us.  Still, she's keeping hydrated.  She tells us she doesn't want to be dehydrated, which is funny to hear from an eight-year-old.

We went to do some chores after this, visiting Lowe's for some plants.  Madison noticed all the birds that live at Lowe's, up in the rafters.  She also enjoyed the smell of the flowers there - although we think she's got some sort of allergies right now.  She has a little cough, so we've been giving her some medication to help with that a bit.  The nose is running too.  That sort of thing has been going on for a bit though, with all sorts of people, young and old.  It's not even the "season" for it yet, and here we all are with scratchy throats and runny noses.  At least in Madison's case, it's all manageable.  She had a great time at tennis, and shopping, and at the very crowded Chick-Fil-A we went to lunch for.  They've added a menu item, whcih makes it possible for Mommy to stop there now:  it's grilled nuggets.  An eight-count of nuggets makes for a tasty meal, and it's all gluten free.  Which means she can basically eat there now.

We thought about going to the pool, or even doing some mini-golf after our library visit, but the clouds began to loom.  It grew dark and windy, and just like that, our plans were diverted indoors.  Madison and Daddy stayed outside on the front yard for just a bit, watching the ominous clouds swirl overhead.  We saw the spiraling shapes as they breezed by, but there was no lightning to drive us quickly inside.  It was an odd front, full of power and wind - and soon after there was rain, and lots of it.  We were quite glad to keep the rest of our plans indoors and at home!

So what did we do?  We did a bit of piano, as always.  But we also decided to plop down for a movie.  Mommy saw something at the library, and Madison wanted to watch it too.  We have our own copy at home, so Daddy plugged in... wait for it... "The Cat From Outer Space."  I am not making this up.  Madison wanted to watch that, so we got the popcorn ready and sat down on the couch together for a movie night.  It was fun!

And after the movie, it was time for bed.  We all need an early night's rest, and that's what we got tonight.  But it was sweet sleep - our daughter is so precious before bedtime.  We were pretending to be like the cat from outer space, "projecting our thoughts" to one another.  We put our fingers up to our foreheads and "projected a thought."  Madison read that thought,  and responded, "I love you too!"
