Tie-Dye Days

Tonight was a fun event put together by the Edges, the beginning of "Tie Dye Days," a few nights this week where kids can buy a t-shirt with the word "EDGE" on it, and then head to a tent where some parents and volunteers were creating different tie-dye patterns on t-shirts for kids - there were four different choices.  Maddie went in and paid for her t-shirt using some money she saved up, and then it was time to stand outside in line and wait for her chance to get her t-shirt made.  Meanwhile, Master Edge was inside with his tie-dye t-shirt on, training his young students as well... it was a fun night!

So today - this week, really - is mostly about Nana.  She's not doing good.  This much is implied as she's in hospice care.  But she's really taken a turn for the worse, so weak and weary.  Not eating, and not drinking much either.  We were there again today, and it's been sad to see.  Lots of emotion here, particularly for Mom.  We're just riding this one out, and doing the best we can.  Nana still makes jokes and she loves her teddy bears.  She also frequently asks that same exact question over and over again, "Did we give something to Maddie?"  It's on her mind all the time.  She talks about Maddie to her friends and neighbors, and she brags about her.  We'll visit again tomorrow.  Someone is watching over her now as this is typed.

Tonight getting home from one of our visits, we noticed something that gave us an unusual joy:  bats.  Lots of them.  Neither of us have chiroptophobia, a fear of bats, and in fact we were just loving the drive in.  Literally the entire drive from the entrance to our neighborhood to the house, we saw many bats fluttering overhead, presumably gobbling up mosquitoes left and right.  What's not to love about that?  We parked our car in the garage, and Mom and I just walked out to the driveway and no joke - we sat there silently about ten minutes watching all these bats all around us, swooping down just inches off the ground and going up again, flittering here and there and just hanging around.  It was a super interesting moment - we have bats, but I've never seen them like that before.

Tonight we watched an episode of "Monk" again, and then after that it was time for reading, and time for bed.  We're all pretty exhausted!
