R2-D2

This morning we had our first part of the latest version of "The Spirit Awakens," which turned out okay!  Maddie is a padawan this series, so she gets her own jedi costume, which looks good on her!

But here's the star of the day!  R2-D2 came by to visit, and the little guy is - and always has been - amazing.  This astromech rolls around, interacts with children, poses, makes noises, has all kinds of music, dances around, has parts pop up out of its dome, and we even had him acting on stage with us.  The best part of all was watching the kids interact with him in our main entrance to the church upstairs.  Here are a few photos of R2-D2 today, having fun at church.

Saying hi to the girls at the info desk!

Posing with kids, padawans, porgs, and Stormtroopers.

Here's Maddie with a pet porg.  And a menacing jedi behind.

Star Wars comes to KidPak again!

On stage, our Jedi Academy instructor introduces himself, and talks about armor.  Yes, that's a Mandalorian helmet.

R2-D2 drops by to visit on stage, and the audience exploded with delight!

Nerdo is a parawan this series, but I think we'll all learn a thing or two.

Maddie warns everyone that this is not blue milk.

Josh and another Madison move along the service - Stormtroopers want people to move along.  Move along.

Mom and I pose with R2-D2.

Maddie joined in for a pose later on too!

There were hundreds of pictures taken with R2-D2 today.  So many parents and families and super fans.  We had a stormtrooper here as well, and of course there were all the characters dressed up as well.  It was a solid morning - we had our "Rebel Races" with the audience choosing one of three star fighters to win a galactic race:  B-Wing, A-Wing, or Y-Wing.  A nerd race!  There was a new message - "This is the Way."  And there was a Mandalorian helmet to show off when talking about the Full Armor of God.  The skit was good too, as we introduced the new series with new costuming that Mom worked very hard on, all while dealing with our own personal issues of late.  It was a great morning!

We got some Chinese food afterwards, and it was really good, and after that, we took some of it over to Nana.  The idea was to get her to try some won ton soup, but she was pretty bad off today.  There are good days and bad days, or at least so goes the expression when dealing with cancer patients.  The last two have been good days, or the "rally" as Mom put it (something she learned from the handbook).  Today, however, is bad.  It's predictable, and yet still somewhat alarming.  It's life, or at least the end part, which isn't exactly a fun part so much.  Maddie wasn't there for this, nor has she this week - she's chosen to stay home and let her last memories of Nana be as they were.  Uncle George is coming in on Tuesday.  We're hoping that Nana will hold out until then.

Getting home, we got our mind off things.  Mom was soaking in the tub while I was catching up on "Luigi's Mansion" with Maddie.  I think we did two floors of the mansion, clearing out ghosts in a Medieval Times sort of layout, and then going up a floor to empty out the garden.  It's been a fun game, with Maddie and I working together to bust some ghosts.

After that, a few episodes of "Monk."  Mom was down by that point, so we were watching a few of those before bedtime.  We closed out the long day with reading from "Leia," which we're almost done with, and then after that, prayers, and sleep.  Long day, and a full one too.
