We had a nice day today, the possible highlight being the Daddy Daughter Date Night at Chick-Fil-A. It's been a few years since the last one, although through no fault of our own. The world situation shut that down last year and the year before, but here we were again, and it was pretty much an identical night to the ones we've had in the past, just with a daughter that's a little older. She ran into another friend tonight, one from taekwondo with her father, but otherwise we didn't really see anyone else while there. That was fine - we were there for the usual meal, and there was a musician nearby, this time a saxophone player who was from a nearby high school, playing simplistic songs from "Frozen" or Taylor Swift. On the table were the questions that we ask each other, and we sort of know these ahead of time anyway, so we made up some new ones for the rest of the meal, including one of my favorites:
Would you rather be able to create living room furniture with just your mind, or have the ability to communicate with goats?
The meal itself was great - Chick-Fil-A of course. We also had their milkshakes, which were delicious. Touring around the restaurant and thrilling the younger girls was Princess Aurora, who we actually took a picture with at the photo booth. Can't wait to see that one. But also tonight, Maddie posed with the Chick-Fil-A cow, who came out of the kitchen to greet the diners. Speaking of which, all the girls get a carnation and a plush cow. Maddie had a lot of these from over the years, so this new one will be able to join the herd at home. The carnation went straight into a vase when we got home.
This morning we were off to another date - we visited with Nana earlier, and this time Maddie was with us to say hello. The three of us visited at lunch time, and spent about an hour there, talking with her in her room. The conversation was fairly repetitive, but she seems to be doing well physically. It's just her mind. We walked with her for a while, although the temperature outside is pretty cold and we kept it indoors. She's not remembering to dress warm enough, nor is she remembering other things about where money is or a new pair of socks to wear from her drawer or where some of these hangars are going.
We had a Mario Party tonight, and sometimes that game can be so frustrating, but I wound up winning for some odd reason, despite being in third place at the end point. It's along the spirit of many KidPak games, where it's not fair, it's just random, and it's crazy that way. You win, and you're thinking "What just happened?"
Tonight we finished "Sorcery," which means we're heading to a new book in the Discworld. It'll be fun wherever we go. I'm reading something else meanwhile, and actually having time to read it, a book Mom got me for Christmas signed by the author. "Boom Town" is another book from Lake Wobegon, although much later in the time line. Anyway, we did some reading today too - Maddie and I read from the daily Narnia devotional, then from the Discworld, and then said our prayers. We went to bed shortly after that, this after a really nice day. We've got to get up early tomorrow...!
