FCY'S Got Talent

Tonight was a talent show at FCY, and Maddie was there along with a friend she invited from school.  These two didn't compete, but they certainly enjoyed the competition, with some great performances, and some that may have been sort of cringy.  Still, it was super fun.

Maddie is in the Beta Club now, or at least will soon be.  The induction ceremony is coming up soon.  The club requires a certain grade point average, and also a certain amount of service each month.  Maddie is already doing quite a bit, volunteering to help students at taekwondo on Thursdays and also helping out at church each Sunday morning too.  There may be some more work coming up, but she'll get that all figured out.  I was in Beta Club too, which I don't remember much from, outside of one terribly boring Christmas party reminiscent of the one from "The Santa Clause 2," at least the first part.  It took place in the school library, and we all had hot apple cider and ... I don't remember much else.  I do now just remember being in a parade that went down the main road through Cleveland.  We were on the flatbed of a big truck, and we were dressed as various school students, and there was this sign with interchangeable letters that we put up to say the words, "JUST SAY NO."  My friend and I had a bad sense of humor and about half-way through we changed it to, "JUST SNOY."

There's a chill in the air, and it is a welcome one.  September is almost halfway over and we're starting to feel more and more like fall.  The apple picking fun this past weekend had perfect weather, as frequently September - early on - can be fairly warm.  Not so this past weekend.  It was perfectly wonderful.  And it has remained cooler this week, much to everyone's satisfaction.

Have you tried a plumcot before?  My goodness this is one of the most delicious fruits I have ever tasted.  It all started with our Phoodle game the other day with the answer being PLUOT.  That brought us to the grocery store to look for a pluot.  The only thing we found was a plumcot, so we bought those instead.  And I absolutely adore this fruit.  Wow, what a delicious taste!

Another thing we got was a dress for Homecoming.  Maddie's dress arrived, and she got a chance to try it out.  She's pretty happy with it, and now there's only a few accessories to gather before her trip to Rome.  Speaking of Rome, Nana and Ye-Ye are still there this week, and things seem to be going well with visits to all sorts of ancient historical destinations.

Maddie and I shared a pumpkin spice latte this morning before school, and I think she's hooked on these lattes.  We'll pick up a few more certainly!  Anyway, she was off to school - there was a chemistry quiz that she was a little uncertain about, but she was studying with her friend and feels like it went better than initially expected.

Mom got me another early birthday gift, some new ornaments for our patriotic tree.  I've got three more Presidents now:  Wilson, Coolidge and Nixon.  I like the Nixon one the most, as it is a gingerbread house design that is really nice, and it even smells like gingerbread.

We still made time to read tonight, but it was a late night.  We got another chapter down, and then said our prayers, and then it was time to get to bed.
