Spectacular Prep

We've had this "Ratatouille" themed Uno set for years, so of course those rats from the movie named Remy and Emile showed up for a game of cards.  As an aside, that little ornament keeps showing up to these things too, and soon we'll have to name him!

This morning was our final practice for Team Edge before the performance at Friday's Edgestravaganza, and Master Edge was there to review the troops.  There were slight modifications here and there, and these could only be spotted by people like Master Edge.  So overall, the routine was very impressive.  Here are a few more photos from today's last practice.

The team has been so impressive that there was an announcement made this morning:  the team is looking into going to compete nationally.  This would be in October, and would be in Little Rock, Arkansas.  Maddie is thinking about it, as are all the students.  There would be a lot of practice and hard-work, but it certainly would be an incredible experience.  We'll see soon enough if she'd like to go.

The rest of today was spent on last-minute frantic details related to our Christmas production.  At one point today, our back-up baby Jesus arrived, and Mom spent a good deal of time making costumes for the star of the show.  First, there was the swaddling clothes for the baby doll.

But there is also a live baby that will be there tomorrow for the production.  I got a onesie, and Mom sewed onto it some bits of cloth to make it appear as if the child will be wrapped in the swaddling clothes as well.  So the above picture is somewhat of a "stunt double" for another scene later on in the production.

It was a massive list of things to do still.  We were watching a few things on the television as we sifted through some new props arriving, such as telescopes and even a sextant.  Yes, we ordered one of those.  We sat down together to watch the First Baptist Church's Living Christmas tree on television this year, as it was live-streamed and we just didn't have the ability to actually physically attend this year.

It's still ongoing, and I'm glad to see it back after the pandemic.  Hopefully next year we can attend in person again ourselves.  But it's always a nice event, and it's so great to hear that Hallelujah performance at the end.  It's completely different from our church production, of course, and so was the Nativity collection at the other church we visited.  What's great is the wonderful variety of events churches put together this time of year.

We were working a lot today, but we also squeezed in the latest episode of "Hawkeye," and while working we actually watched "Home Alone 3" for the first time ever.  The bar was really low for this one, as we've heard nothing but bad about it for years.  But we watched it nonetheless, just because we're completionists in a way, and truthfully it's not that bad of a movie.  Oh, and Maddie and I started season four of "Camp Cretaceous."  Both she and I could have kept binging on that, but we'll sneak the rest of the episodes in over the course of the next week or so.

It was a stormy afternoon, with a well-defined line of storms coming across around 2pm or so today.  It was strong, but nothing as strong as previous ones, and certainly nothing like the terrible storms that have ravaged Kentucky and Indiana.  There was a tornado up there this week that set all kinds of horrifying records.

Maddie and Nana went to sleep tonight after prayers, and of course I'm still reading Kingdom Keepers with Maddie.  But Mom and I hardly slept tonight.  Mom got in a few winks, but I did not.  Call time is 5am tomorrow, and it's going to be a massive day.
