Santa Shark

There was a song this year called "Baby Shark," one that had a video and an insanely catchy melody that sticks with you for a really long time.  As you can see here, the elf must have been inspired by "Baby Shark," and not only that, but "Santa Shark" as well.  Last night, Mommy and Daddy saw the Santa Shark video for the first time, and yeah, the new Christmas version is just as catchy!

So suddenly, Daddy is getting the cold, and Mommy slightly after that.  Yep, the same illness that afflicted Madison this past weekend is now hitting us with a vengeance.  Although, I'm not sure what"vengeance" has to do with it, unless we killed this illness' fellow virus with a vaccine or something.  The point is, it was a soup and blankets kind of day for us.  Daddy actually took off of work, although he did a lot of work from home.

Madison got home and studied for two major tests tomorrow, one in math and one in social studies.  She spent a lot of time studying, and then we were watching a few Christmas specials tonight, still a nice time.

We also had a new time slot for martial arts, as Madison is now with some older kids with a more advanced belt.  So she's moved up, and is ready for sparring!  Her first sparring was tonight, although she doesn't have the gear yet - Mrs. Edge told us that we'll have that new gear on Friday, so that might find its way under the tree this Christmas.  As for how Madison did, she did well, this despite the fact that she's still slightly under the weather.

When it came to sparring with the foam pads, her opponents were instructed to not strike her but play defense, as she didn't have her protective gear yet.  Still, one boy forgot, and started striking out at her.  Madison was good though - she actually struck the foam pad out of the other boy's hands, not once but twice!  I talked to her afterwards, amazed at what I saw, and she told me she was able to do it because "she saw a pattern, and struck."

I was like, "Wha?"  That's amazing!  I've never been so proud and simultaneously unsettled!  "Looking for a pattern?"  Just where did that come from?

Tonight we got home and did some more studying, and whatever grades she gets tomorrow, we're proud of her.  She's been studying hard and doing her best.

We read tonight, from Luke, from the devotional, and from "The Nutcracker," which is drawing to a close as we get closer to Christmas.  It's been good, and it's got us all inspired.  I wonder if a certain elf knows about us reading this book, almost done with it?  Perhaps that's a bit of foreshadowing there...!

We said our prayers and the other things we do each night for our routine, and then it was off to sleep, still subconsciously singing that relentless song in our heads... you know the one...
