Buckner Baby Shower

This afternoon we were at Josie and Isaac's baby shower for a few hours, and it was actually a really nice time there.  They reserved the north campus area and had it decorated, and of course there were things to munch on and a few activities, although the big show was watching them open up all the presents we got for their baby girl.

One fun idea was an alphabet coloring sheet, where people colored different letters and animals at their tables with provided colored pencils.  We were fairly obsessed with this to begin with, intensely coloring at our tables as we spoke with others, catching up about their latest.

Here's Mary Shannon and Wesley, who we just don't see enough.  They're doing well, as were many others that came that we knew.  It was just a really pleasant afternoon hanging out together.

Here's Maddie's coloring sheet when finished.  She did a great job.  And below is the one that I did:

It's somewhat of an unusual horse.  I was thinking of "The Wizard of Oz" here, with a horse of a different color.

Of course the main event was the opening of all the presents.  Isaac was thrilled when he got our basket, particularly because of the Spider-jammies.  They say, "I am amazing!"

It was a quiet day otherwise, although I was driving Maddie back and forth for Team Edge practice.  That went well, by the way.  I was catching up with things - reading, and getting on that treadmill.  I'm starting the entire Monty Python's Flying Circus series with episode one (and a little more after that), and will actually go through all the episodes as I walk this summer (and maybe beyond - it's a lot of episodes!).  But it's hilarious, and I haven't seen some of these in twenty years.  The funniest joke in the world bit was hysterical (otherwise known as "the killer joke"), as were other skits featuring Arthur "Two Sheds" Jackson, and Pablo Picasso's attempt at creating artwork as he rides a bicycle through England.

We had a more relaxing day today.  Maddie and I did an honest speck of pirating with LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean, knocking off another few levels.  We then went on to play a card game that was super fun, "The Oregon Trail."  What's great about this game is the chance of survival.  It's slim, to say the least.  In fact, we had four players:  Mad Dog, Stinky Joe, Cletus, and Clarice.  Cletus got bit by a rattlesnake early and died.  Clarice died of dysentery.  Stinky Joe also died from a rattlesnake bite.  Mad Dog was scrambling towards the end at Willamette Valley... but she lost her spare clothes during one of our seemingly infinite river crossings, and when the weather turned frigid, she passed away from frostbite.  We did well crossing the rivers this time, and we had a good bit of supplies for the most part, and made it to the 9th round of ten total.  It just wasn't meant to be, and we wrote out our epitaphs on our tombstones to memorialize the valiant efforts.

I'm writing this outside by the fire pit tonight.  We're going to watch another few episodes of "Loki" tonight, and then we'll continue reading with the Kingdom Kids.  Those are the children of the Kingdom Keepers, of course.  They're planning on a bit of time travel, so we'll see how that goes.  After that, we'll say our prayers and get some rest.  We have church in the morning, and it'll be a good Memorial Day Sunday.
