Space Thoughts

Currently overhead, the Space Shuttle Discovery is orbiting on what is said to be it's last mission. I think there are two more space shuttle missions before they are all done with, but what a run it's been. It does make me wonder what Madison will see in the future in regards to space travel. We've known the space shuttle for a very large part of our lives. I was born just after the men landed on the moon, and was too young to remember any of the Apollo missions. But space travel has always been fascinating. Daddy wanted to be an astronaut when he was young, but doesn't everyone dream of traveling into space, or landing on the moon? Again, we wonder what the future holds, and what Madison might know as she gets older. A trip to Cape Canaveral is in order, certainly.

Another amusing space-related thought: Mommy and Daddy have been watching the Star Wars movies in order over the past few weeks. Tonight was Daddy's favorite: "The Empire Strikes Back." Earlier last year, it was announced that all of these movies would be re-released in 3D - only one year at a time. Mark your calendars for February 10, 2012: that's when "The Phantom Menace" is released. How does this relate to Madison? The thought occurred to me that "Return of the Jedi," or "Episode VI," would be released when she is eleven years old. She'll actually be old enough to go see it with us. That's a long ways off!

Finally, this thought has nothing to do with space. Tonight, Daddy gets home tired, eats with the family and watches Madison, filled with excitement, going over and jumping up and down on the couch. Mommy says she hasn't had her "energetic" time yet. There's been a lot of education today, but with the cold weather outside, there hasn't been any time to run around and let off some steam. Uh-oh. Daddy looks up from the table, worn out and weary. But he looks straight into Madison's hopeful eyes as she beckons him to come over to the living room for a huge wrestling match...
