We're not able to watch too much of the news lately, but one thing I can listen to while working has been the Braves games in the playoffs, and thus far, it's been so stress-free compared to many, many other years. They won today, and in fact have shut out their opponents, something like four of the last five playoff games. They are undefeated in post-season, in fact.
Yes, they'll play the best team in baseball next round, and we'll see something different from the Dodgers. But the Cincinnati Reds and the Florida Marlins were both beaten by the Braves, and again, in four of those games the other team did not score a single run. That's how good our pitching has been so far. Hopefully that trend can continue!
It's certainly an unusual baseball season, of course, with no one in the stands. But we're all there in spirit, and there's a lot of chatter back and forth amongst the Braves fans about this team. They've been pretty solid despite all the challenges of the year. It's been great to listen to them, and watch highlight reels later on.
This is surprisingly the first time they've made it to the National League Championship since 2001. They're frequently in the playoffs, doing well enough throughout the season. But it's been a while since we've seen them this far. It's great to see them doing well, and it reminds us all a little of the "glory days," when they were so dominant in the 90's. I remember going to so many games back then to see all the teams. We even went to some of the play-off games, my favorite being the '95 game where Greg Maddux, pitched and we defeated the Colorado Rockies. I think I still have that ticket. He was always my favorite player, but the other pitchers were incredible too. John Smoltz came to our church one time to speak to us, which was a great moment for all us baseball fans in the church. There are plenty!
Madison was happy to hear about the game. We watched the highlights from game two this morning, as we've been doing lately with the games. We're just so busy with the day-to-day, with Nana, and with all that's going on right now that we don't have much time to sit and watch a full game. So this will do nicely.
This morning, I started out with a pumpkin spice latte, which is tradition. We've been writing a lot and setting up for a regular service again at KidPak. That's the plan for this weekend once more. We'll just have the chairs socially distant from one another, but we're moving forward there, and it will be great. I finished the skit for Sunday, and thought it would be funny if our Time Travelers went to... March of this year. I think March of this year will be as iconic a moment in time as any, and much parodied in the future, although it isn't necessarily that funny now. It was a time of holding toilet paper, self-exiles, and all kinds of looming fear. I thought it might be interesting to go back then, and then show the kids how far we've come.
The other thing we were doing in the office was filming hoverboard races for our upcoming weekend. Naturally, we were all racing around the hallways afterwards, zipping by meetings and classes up and down the hallways in these fast-moving little devices. It was fun!
We had a long session of taekwondo tonight, and after that, a brief trip over to Dairy Queen for some ice cream because why not? To complete the day, I had a pumpkin pie milkshake, while Madison went with chocolate mint. It's one of her favorite flavors.
Tonight's seasonal entertainment was shorter, this due to the amount of homework Madison had to do. And that's okay, because that obviously comes first. But afterwards, we watched "Toy Story of Terror" together. And after that, it was pretty much time for bed. We read, we prayed, and not much later, we slept.
