Solar System Walk

Maddie was at FCY again this evening, along with many of the other youth her age.  She was there to welcome a new friend to the ministry - she's occasionally the one asked to help introduce Free Chapel Youth to new visitors.  It was a good service though - I dropped her off at the church while heading back to see Mom and spend some time together.

It was a good day today.  This morning we did something that I was on my list of things to do for quite some time.  We did the Gainesville Solar Walk, filming a video for this weekend's launch of the "Weird Science" series.

The big yellow one is the sun!

It's a tour of the planets of the solar system, and it's built to a scale of 1 to 2,000,000,000.  So every footstep is equal to two billion footsteps.  And we walked a lot of them - something like 1 1/3 of a mile in distance. We walked from the middle of the town square, past shops, past the library, past the printer's place and into the park past an outdoor auditorium and along a trail through the woods until we wound up over by the painted rock and past the tennis courts near a playground where we found Pluto.  We stopped to talk about each one, and it was actually a really nice day outside.  We walked a long ways though, further than even what was described above, so our feet are ready for a break here.  But it was something I was wanting go do for a while, and the video is being edited by Josh now as we speak, so we'll get that ready to go for this weekend.

So tonight after FCY, of course we had to watch the finish of "The Mandalorian" and season three.  Bo Katan and Din Djarin led the charge to reclaim their home on Mandalor, finally defeating Moff Gideon and his evil minions.  It was a good day - but a long one!  We closed things out reading from this latest Kingdom Keepers book, then saying our prayers and getting some sleep!
