Kentucky Derby 2010

We took this photo one year ago, just before the Kentucky Derby in 2009. Madison is sitting onstage for our series "Horse Sense," which was about a few trainers on a horse farm trying to take care of their filly, Juniper Breeze.

Just a few hours later, the Kentucky Derby roared to life, the most exciting two minutes in sports. And last year, it was: Mine that Bird came all the way from waaaay back in the pack to cross the finish line first, with 50-1 odds. It was a really exciting race.

Though today's Kentucky Derby wasn't as exciting, it sure was a lot muddier. Super Saver wound up winning the race, and if I were a betting man I would have made some money today. It was that same jockey, and I had a hunch he'd pull it off again!

Madison has seen plenty of horses - she likes to call out the word when she sees them from the car. She can say the word "horse" pretty good, or at least we can understand her somewhat when she does. She likes horses, of course. She's got some My Pretty Pony dolls, and will undoubtedly add a few more when we visit the My Pretty Pony station down in Disney World later this month. We might even go for another pony ride if we have the time - but I don't know. We'll see if time allows for it.

Anyway, today was not as thrilling as the Kentucky Derby: we worked towards our new series that starts tomorrow - and tonight we're preparing the house for Baba and Nana, who are coming up from Florida. It'll be a big day tomorrow: there are two very important anniversaries to celebrate. One is a birthday, and one is something else entirely different - but just as joyous...

How's that for a teaser?
