Adventure Camp

Here's the start of the first camp of the summer, something called "Adventure Camp," basically because of all the activities that were planned.

We had to get our own Nerf gun, and so Daddy put out an email asking if anyone had something to borrow.  Fortunately, we had several offers, including one Aunt Shain let us borrow that was pretty effective.  She had a great time shooting people, which of course is just odd to say.  But the day was a lot of fun, including the Ninja Warrior Obstacle Course, something Madison came close to winning at.  She did win a few other games, including the pirate game - a game of quick-thinking skills, where kids have to lead to the port, starboard, stern or bow.  Or they swab the deck, or man overboard!  Madison won that game, most likely because she is part pirate.

Anyway, she had a great day at camp.  Daddy was working on the form letters advertising for Summer Xtreme, and earlier, Mommy and Daddy were over at the chiropractor getting a few adjustments.  Afterwards, we had just enough time to drop by the library and do our civic duty and vote.  It was a somewhat longer process, this due to the problems with the virus that nobody seems to have any recollection of lately.  Seriously, there's a virus problem?  All we can talk about is how major cities all throughout the nation have hit the self-destruct button.  So we voted today, and we had masks on and there was still all the social distancing, and the thorough cleaning of each pen and station.  There were other extra steps to the voting process too, including printing a ballot and inserting that into a scanner.

We did a lot of research with this vote this time, looking into all the candidates running for various positions.  This one is a bit larger of a field, so there were a lot of candidates running for things.  Also, there were a lot of questions to answer as well.  But we did our research and had it all figured out for the most part.  One candidate this morning, Daddy changed his vote to support - he was pretty close to another and we were wavering back and forth.  The thing that helped tip the scale?  A student wandering the neighborhood, representing that candidate.  It was a nice conversation, and you did a great job, kid.

We got home and had a California Pizza, which was yummy.  And it was time to go get Madison, of course.  Daddy picked her up, and by all accounts, she had a splendid time for day one, retelling the stories of her victories at a few games, and how much fun she had with the others too.

Tonight the President showed a lot of courage, walking out of the White House over to St. John's church there.  Immediately, a lot of folks in media pounced on this as a photo op.  Which is in essence what politicians tend to do, of course.  There was a recent photo op with pens, for example, at a serious and "solemn" moment where everyone holding pens were simply beaming.  Getting off topic here.  The point is, he held a Bible and stood in front of a church.  Of course, the leaders of that particular church are more a political organization than anything, but still, it was a church.  Daddy was at that church a while back - it's an old church that goes back to the days of President Madison.  Anyway, the President had this battered church behind him, the one that people set fire to the night before.  He spoke of actually bringing protection to people in danger, as local governments further north seem incapable of handling this.  It's an odd thing watching large groups of people destroy and steal without anything to stop them.  They're destroying the city.  It will take money to rebuild, and I imagine that money will not come from all the people that no doubt will be leaving the city because of the events this year.  So taxes will go up, perhaps?  We were just at a point where it looked like we'd start climbing out of this troublesome year with the virus, and now this.  It's a frightening time.  We're okay for the time being, but these cities are in mortal danger.  They are on fire tonight, and they will be emptier in the coming months, with businesses closing forever, and an exodus of people fleeing to safer ground.

We had a lot to pray about tonight, and we did have good news today.  Ba-Ba's blood count was high enough that he could have another round of chemotherapy today.  Two more weeks of this, and hopefully his blood counts will stay up to endure those treatments.  He was upbeat as he spoke with us this afternoon, just as he always is.

Tonight's reading got us closer to the end of this recent pirate book, which has been a nice and pleasant adventure to sail away on, getting our mind off of things for a bit.  We prayed for Ba-Ba, and for our nation.  These are dark times.
