Today the fifth grade at Chestatee Elementary School went off to Stone Mountain for a pretty big field trip. You can see Madison above (wearing a green hat, directly in front of the standing red t-shirts to the right), and of course the sculpture of Jackson, Lee, and Davis on Stone Mountain in the background. They had a great time today, starting off the morning with a ride in a charter bus. Here's Madison on the way down, deep into one of her new books from the Book Fair.
Another mom took these pictures, sending them to us, which was nice of her. Madison pretty much finished this book, having just got it. But once they arrived at Stone Mountain, they were pretty busy! Here's Madison at the podium, having just learned a bit more about the Civil War. Well, she already knew this info, so she heard it again. Maybe she's at the podium so she could be the teacher the next time:
They did a lot today. The kids had a choice where they could go up the mountain, or stay at the base and do a bunch of other things instead. They opted to stay at the base of the mountain, where they first of all played some mini-golf. Madison enjoyed it, although she says it isn't as good as the mini-golf courses over at Daytona. They also went for a ride on the train.
She enjoyed that, particularly because of the breeze that was blowing through her hair as the train moved along. It was a hot day today, so the shade and breeze were welcome.
Madison also visited Dinosaur Explore and the Dinotorium, which were great, considering the recent viewing of Jurassic Park movies and so forth. As a bonus, there was a 4D movie, which was cool and indoors, and the kids got sprayed with dinosaur spit. Always a bonus!
Anyway, she had a great time today, and got back to the school around 6:00 tonight. Daddy picked her up, we went home, had dinner - and it was off to the piano again. Tomorrow is the recital, so she's been playing this "Tightrope" over and over again. She's gotten really good at it.
Tonight we had delicious dinners, although Madison's wasn't like Daddy and Mommy's, who had a great fish dinner. Madison is more of a corn and corndog, or taquito, or pizza kind of person. She likes tacos, tikka masala, and spaghetti. She's just now starting to expand a little bit more, but she's definitely got those comfort foods. Daddy loves fish, and Mommy had it with shrimp on top and a garlic sauce that basically assured us of no vampire presence in the house for three or four years.
After dinner, there was some more practicing of the piano, and then some Battlefront II. We sat down for the penultimate episode of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." just because Daddy wanted to use the word "penultimate" again. Things wrap up for the season - or the series - next weekend. We still don't know if it is going to be cancelled or not. It would be nice to know some time before the end of the season though, you'd think. We're the faithful Marvel viewers, who have been watching this series since day one. Tonight's episode had some big events to it: things are looking intense for next week though. We'll see how it all wraps up, in just one week. Hopefully with a happy ending!
Tonight we were all in bed shortly after that. We've got a busy day tomorrow, with a recital and possibly more. Besides, today was a big day for Madison. Time to get some rest!
