Service today was all about the movie "Brave," as we were celebrating Mother's Day. It was a good service with a great message, although there are portions of the movie that sort of speak just as loud as any person delivering a message could. Still, it represented the end of our "Legends" series, which lasted longer than most series that we do. We wanted to get it to Mother's Day just because of the movie "Brave," which fits within this series pretty easily.
After service, we were taking down the castle walls, and getting ready for a new heroes series. But for the morning, Daddy was the guest speaker, and things went really well.
We showed clips from the movie, and the kids seemed to really respond to things. It wasn't quite as gut-wrenching as that scene from "Mars Needs Moms," but it was still pretty good.
Madison woke up this morning and got Mommy's card from a super secret hiding spot. She brought it down the hall to Mommy and gave it to her, exclaiming "Happy Mother's Day!" She's been holding on to this secret for long enough, so she was pretty happy to pass it along.
After service, we went over to Nana and Ye-Ye's house, where Aunt Shain and her family showed up as well. We were all together for Mother's Day, and there were plenty of other gifts to hand out as well. Several people had birthdays recently: Ye-Ye, Mommy, Aunt Shain, David and Jonathan. We had a big meal together, and it was just good to be together, hanging out and talking and catching up.
A few hours later, we finally returned home. We were a bit tired, but Madison nevertheless did another run with her piano performance of "Tightrope." She's still practicing because there's a talent show coming up, and she's going to perform that at her school as well. So once a day, she'll keep it up, and indeed, she's getting better and better with it.
We went back to Hoth again, which is where we seem to live lately. Madison was taking a leisurely stroll in her AT-AT, blasting rebel scum like Daddy. We were both trying out the radar laser cannons though, and surprisingly enjoying a bit of target shooting with those. Daddy has a few of these downstairs, tiny ones, and they "explode" with the press of a button. That's about all they were good for growing up. Because if you saw the movie, you saw direct evidence that this guy was using one to shoot a AT-AT in the kneecap, and it does absolutely no good. Not much longer, the radar laser cannons are all blowing up. So there's a bit of a bad rep for the radar laser cannon. Until "Battlefront II," that is. Suddenly, these have been a bit more fun. Just grab an engineer character, and have a blast. So to speak.
Tonight we read a few more chapters from the next book in "A Series of Unfortunate Events," which seems to be following the television show very closely. The writing in it is fun, and of course a little bit darker humor. But Madison and Mommy are enjoying it quite a bit, laughing out loud from time to time.
So Mother's Day has come and gone. Mommy, of course, called her mother in Florida. We'll be seeing them soon enough, this upcoming weekend. But she spoke with her mother for a while, as she usually does when they call each other. It's so good to have good family relationships. Nothing as stressed or strained as Merida and her mother Elinor. We keep our weapons off the table, and keep our hearts full of love for our mothers.
