We had time for a little bit of LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean tonight, just a speck of honest pirating. One thing brought us back in the Time Machine to like thirteen years ago when we were playing this game - Maddie and I would choose Lian and Park in free play mode, and then stand by the NPC versions of Lian and Park so that there were four identical twins there all doing various martial arts poses. I have no idea why we did this back then - we tried to time it so that everyone was doing something all at once. So tonight, that memory came back... so we did it again just for fun!
Okay, so this is a scurrying kind of week, as we've got Summer Xtreme in just one week and that's a big deal round these parts! We've got so much to do, and that said, today we were out and about looking through thrift stores for costuming material for our characters on stage. I also spent a good deal of time writing the script for the last day of the skits, a big finale to our ongoing story at Summer Xtreme. It's all sort of a "Sky High" meets "Breakfast Club" skit where the students are super heroes, and they're in a summer detention. One of the challenges early on was giving these students powers that could be easily shown on stage without special effects or visuals. We came up with a few I think that weren't lame. One neat thing here is the return of Maddie to the stage as one of the students. Her character is somewhat of a reverse empathy, which is to say she can make everyone around her within a certain range feel a great deal of strong emotions. Which is to say everyone on stage starts comically crying at one moment, and then exploding with laughter the next, and then afterwards, they're completely confused as to what just happened. Blame Maddie's character!
So we were out looking through thrift stores, and they were packed today. Just packed! People were crammed in these clothing places, sifting through all the different shirts and pants and shorts and whatever... I couldn't wait to get out of there. The visit to Goodwill was the same - there were so many people there. Mom found a bit of success getting a few bits of outfit, some leather jackets and other pieces that will go together to make Dawn and Emma's costumes. Also something for Jeremiah. While there, I also found a few more vinyl albums, which are only a dollar each. One gem: Amy Grant's "Never Alone" on vinyl, which made me super happy to find.
Tonight we watched the penultimate episode of season five of "The Chosen," which has been mostly a very somber season. As we all know our Bibles, there aren't really any surprises - outside of the fact that we're seeing Nicodemus again. It's been good though!
We closed out the night with a dragon tale, continuing our Discworld book, "Guards! Guards!" We're fairly close to discovering the "who" in "whodunnit." It's a fun book. We said our prayers after that, and after that - time for bed. Good day!
