We had FCY tonight, and Maddie enjoyed that as always. She goes with her friends from taekwondo, and usually hooks up with a few more to hang out with, while I'm usually dropping her off for a miniature date night with Mom. Of course, we don't go anywhere usually. Many times it's just a nice quiet meal at home and a movie. Tonight's feature presentation was a continuation of our Universal monsters series with the big finish: "Frankenstein." This was our favorite thus far of the classic monster movies, as it really set the table on certain things for future movies. Like Igor, for example. Although the assistant is not named Igor, but rather Fritz. But all lab assistants will look like that from now on, and in fact there's an entire species of Igor in the Discworld. And that lab? All labs look like that from now on, and Tim Burton has that same lab a few times over in his movies, which is not a bad thing. Frankenstein will look like that from this point on too. There are plenty more ideas that begin with this movie, so we were pretty fascinated by that aspect of things. But overall, it's a much better movie than the other two recent entries, "Dracula" and "The Wolfman." For some reason, Dr. Frankenstein gets away with everything he did without any repercussions (other than potential hospitalization). But isn't this all his fault? Regardless of who is to blame, it's a fun classic.
Anyway, the air is cold outside and fall is here. Mom was painting on the deck as we're getting the house ready for the pumpkin carving party in a few weeks. The house is looking nice in the front with mums and pumpkins and fall flags. It's nice out there in the morning, reading and studying. I'm still on the treadmill, still in the Canary Islands this month, and that is well. Oh, speaking of morning chores, I've been diligent since Easter of 2023 with the care of our sea monkeys. The result is that I still have a few in the tank, all part of the same first batch. It's a next generation, but to be clear, I've only put eggs in there once back right after Easter of 2023. These little pets of ours are doing well, and I can see some more tiny sea monkeys coming along in the tank too - perhaps a next generation after these few pass on. We'll see!
We read tonight, and we said our prayers. It was a quiet day overall. We're about to get busy though!
