Playing Cards

Maddie had fun playing some card games tonight after the service at FCY.  They were gambling for candy!

Just kidding.  She’s playing all sorts of different card games with friends.  And FCY was a great service, one with Pastor Jacob this time, last week Pastor Hamilton, and here we are moving forward with 2024 at Free Chapel Youth.  They were honoring the fast with the usual post-service food selection.  Pizza was an option for those not fasting, but there was plenty of fruit for those who were fasting, and that was nice.  Maddie got together with some of the KidPak actors afterwards and had a great time hanging around.

A Tropical Freeze is coming!  We’ve got our series theme down for the summer, which is seven months away, but sooner than you think!  We were planning out characters, stories, games, and yes, even messages today.  We’ve got five pretty good ones that go with the theme, and we’re fairly excited about it.  Of course, all this talk of snow and ice gets our hopes up of actually seeing snow and ice around here.  Seems unlikely.  But at least we saw some up in the Great Smoky Mountains a few weeks ago, and that was pretty nice.  But still, the work towards Summer Xtreme is here, and that’s pretty awesome.

This morning we’re still looking at our course on the book of Genesis, and that’s been good.  We were looking in and listening to a lecture about Ishmael and Isaac, and laughter too.  This has been a good course, a good supplement to our fast for certain.  These have been some good courses, and yes, we’re star students.

The bluebirds have been all over our back porch, which is wonderful because I remember a time where we had none at all.  Give them worms and they will come.  Give the cardinals safflower seeds and they will come.  Actually, we’ve had all kinds of birds back there, and at night we’ve had an owl giving us a hoot by the bedroom window.  Mom found a resource of owl noises, listened to them all, and discovered that it was a Great Horned Owl in our back yard.  First a hawk, now a big owl.  We’re doing really well with exotic bird bingo!

Everything else continues as always – walking in Australia (on the treadmill), plus hiding the rubber duck amongst bookshelves and bathroom towels.  We watched an episode of “Napoleon Dynamite,” but earlier I actually continued the Herbie-thon with “Herbie Rides Again.”  I love these movies – I’ve got four to go, I think.  I figured if I’m 53, I have to watch the movies with car #53, right?  Next up we’ll meet with Jim Douglas again as he rides with Herbie in Europe.  Can’t wait!

Tonight we got back later from FCY.  It is cold and it is later, but we squeezed in that one episode of Napoleon Dynamite, which featured a visit to Ligertown.  Love this stuff!  But the thing we did afterwards was bring that plush entourage down the hall to finish up “I Shall Wear Midnight.”  We both really liked this one, and all things Tiffany Aching.  But we especially love the Nac Mac Feegle.  It was a sweet ending, a special one.  Tomorrow, we’ll start up with the final book in the Tiffany Aching series, and in fact the final book of the Discworld.  We’ve got a lot of books to go to read all the Discworld books, and actually I still have one or two to go to read them all.  “The Shepherd’s Crown” is next.”

We said our prayers afterwards, and then we said our prayers.  We prayed for Mom today at a KidPak meeting.  She’s doing somewhat better, but we pray for her healing frequently.
