Madison completed her homework assignment, tasked with writing a short winter story on the computer. She actually had a bit of fun with this exercise, once she started to imagine Queen Elsa in the tale. We'll catch up on the blog soon, but in the meantime, here is Madison's story, "Elsa's Surprise Visit."
Once upon a time there was an orphanage in Arendelle. In the orphanage, children were bored. It was winter and they didn't have snow. Then, there was a surprise! Queen Elsa came to visit! She made an ice slide and stairs. She made snow forts so that the people could have fun with. Then she made an ice skating rink, and some people fell down! Then some vikings came, and they had fun too! Everyone had a slippery good time, and nobody was bored anymore. The end.
Here's a photo of a costume Madison has been anxious to wear this week. We've been visiting Oz a few times - we have four movies in our collection right now. One of them we watched tonight, "Oz the Great and Powerful." Madison wore her Dorothy dress tonight:
She wore the red shoes for tonight, but had to take them off for the movie. The reason: Dorothy wasn't in Oz yet, Daddy. Oh, that's right. So this recent Oz thing has pretty much started with the purchase of the red shoes - she's all into Oz now, and we might go and get some of the books from the library. Daddy is curious, as we've never read all of them. I did read the first one, but there are quite a few afterwards. Perhaps they'll be a fun read - we'll give one or two a try. And beyond that, maybe we'll make the leap to the KidPak stage with a series. After all, you can see easy lessons on wisdom (Scarecrow), love (Tin Man), and courage (Lion). Other lessons should be easy to piece together, right?
Tonight, Madison had a joke for me. She said, "Daddy, I have a joke: come closer." So I did. Then she hit me with a pillow, and laughed and laughed! It was actually a pretty funny moment. We went to bed early tonight, having done all our homework and piano just in time. Everyone was a bit tired, so it was an easy night for rest, as we slipped off to sleep pretty much all at the same time!
