Shock and awe struck our house this morning when that alarm went off. What on earth is that thing doing ringing so early? The answer was simple: it was time to go back to school! Madison - for the first time - was not quite ready to go back. She was wanting a few more days to play with her toys, and have fun with Mommy and Daddy. Nevertheless, she dutifully got her things ready - including her new "Frozen" themed backpack and lunchbox. After prayers and a quick photo, we were in the car and off to school with all the other tired parents.
It's a slow start at school this week - no homework, for example. I think they are getting the kids used to the idea of coming back to school again. They'll kick it in gear next week, I'm sure. This week we'll also go to tennis class for the first time, and this afternoon, we were back at piano class. Ugh! That was quite a jolt, wasn't it? We got a new book, and things are really starting to take off at this point. Madison is sticking with it though. Daddy needs to stick with it too, if he hopes to play anything at all beyond "Mary had a Little Lamb." We did some scales, and some more of the rag we've been working on. Such a funny word for a piano piece: a rag. But there it is. I hate to rag on the person who came up with that.
Mommy's fast-friendly recipes are still outstanding. We've been trying new salads and soups, including some tonight that were just delicious. She should put together a fast-friendly recipe book, because these are just the best. Perhaps a blog in the future…!
In preparation for the new service this weekend, Madison and Daddy watched bits of "Thor: The Dark World," searching for one scene with that hammer. That's the theme this month, so we're getting all Nordic in this house. Madison was very focused on certain parts of the movie, and worried about Jane Foster if she'd be okay. Daddy let her know it would be alright, and then afterwards, we continued our Disney Infinity 2.0 quest to defend Asgard! We played as Thor and Black Widow, defeating wave after wave of Frost Giants, and annoying flying robots.
We've been reading a lot today, trying to get some books finished before returning them to the library. We've got a few movies to watch too, although a few of those might have to be returned unwatched. The books, however, have all been read. Another book we continued is the new Bible that Madison and Daddy started. We read the unfortunate story of Cain and Abel today, which Madison hasn't gone over yet. We talked about it a bit afterwards, about jealousy, and about giving your best to God. We'll be in Genesis for a while, which is exciting. Lots of great stories to talk about there.
So it is cold outside. But it is about to get colder. A lot colder. No snow, but that was the pattern last year: lots of outrageously cold weather, and then the onslaught of snow. We'll see how that goes though. Perhaps we should buy a sled this year?
Tonight after prayers, Mommy and Daddy had a little bit of an "Agent Carter" fest. First, we watched the Marvel One-Shot to get prepared for the series. And then tonight, there was the series premier, a visit to 1947 with Peggy Carter, Howard Stark and of course Edwin Jarvis. It's a fun series, but of course we're Marvel fans there.
