We've been watching the Star Wars Resistance show each night here, and it's been pretty decent. This is just the sort of short episode that you can squeeze in after homework and taekwondo, and so we've been starting these up. There's only one season on Disney Plus so far, but Madison loves all things Star Wars currently, so we'll be watching this one for a few weeks I suppose, until we're done with that first season, I suppose.
Taekwondo was tonight, which featured Madison's lightning fast reflexes with the combat stick. I was watching her for a while as she fended off attacks with some super fast reflexive blocks, and then of course her strikes were fantastic too. She had fun, although she said she had a few bruises here or there. She's picking up taekwondo again, and doing well with that.
She's also doing well with her photography class. Tonight we had a homework assignment where we had to identify all the parts of the camera. The diagram was pretty complicated, so we were able to look around online and find the same exact diagram somewhere, and find the answers there! But photography is still a great class - Madison had to submit a few pictures, one of her favorite pictures and one of her least favorite pictures that she's taken. She also had to submit an explanation as to why each was good or bad. Here's the good one she likes:
The depth of field and composition were nice on this one, as were the colors. The subject matter was also pretty interesting. Mommy and Daddy liked this one too - it was obviously taken at Dollywood. So was this next one, the "bad one" that didn't turn out as well:
Not only is the subject matter out of focus, he's silhouetted by the light in the background. This picture just didn't turn out that well.
She's learning already in photography, and she's learning elsewhere too - one of the more challenging topics is finding the area of some rather unusual shapes. She's finding the area of circles, but then afterwards cutting that in half or subtracting the area of other circles from the initial total, as those represent "holes" or something like that. Anyway, there's a lot to keep track of.
Social Studies is humorous, as we're learning about China and so on. But yes, we're starting off with pollution. That's what we always learn about with these nations in school. Their history and culture are interesting, but let's start things off by talking about their pollution!
Mommy and Daddy were working in the warehouse today, which is filled with a lot of things that have to go. We're emptying the warehouse to move things to a better place. Some of these books we were finding go back to the year 2006. A lot of memories in this ol' place! We threw a lot of things away and made a lot of room, but there were other things we're keeping - including something you'll see tomorrow.
We had a delicious soup tonight, and a we read from Prince Caspian some, as well as our devotional. The fast is ongoing, and there's a shift in focus once more, a realignment as it were. But all is well, and so are we. The flu is rampant throughout the area, but we've been okay - this despite a few health setbacks in December. That wasn't the flu though.
There has been a lot of trouble in Iran, and people are focused on that now. We're praying for good decisions that our leaders need to make from this point on. We're also praying that the people will stick to the ol' saying, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it." But we'll see about that.
