Mr. Shark

We're having a great time coming up with games for this Toy Story series - tonight we were planning a game of charades, all based on that shark that pops up out of the Toy Box next to Woody, the one that says, "I'm Woody.  Howdy, howdy, howdy."  In fact, Daddy wrote out a devotional entry just about this guy:

“Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is
good is from God.” 1 John 3:11 NIRV

At one point in the movie “Toy Story,” Woody spends the night in the toy chest, along with several other toys. Peeking out of the toy chest, he looks around, and realizes his hat is missing. He looks around and asks, “Hey, who’s got my hat?”
That’s when a little toy shark pops up next to him, and sure enough, he’s wearing Woody’s hat.
“Hey,” Mr. Shark says. “I’m Woody. Howdy, howdy, howdy!”
Woody is not amused, but we sure are! That one line may have been the only thing this shark says in the whole series, but it was a funny imitation.
And yes, you’ve probably seen better imitations. But you have to respect that little toy shark. In fact, you might have a good imitation of Woody yourself. Try turning to someone and saying, “There’s a snake in my boots!” Or how about the classic line, “YOU. ARE. A TOYYYYYY!”
Like the toy shark, you might be able to imitate Woody pretty well. But you can probably remember from the movies, there are things he occasionally does that you wouldn’t want to imitate either. He does things he knows he shouldn’t, and of course these are things we know we shouldn’t do either. Jealousy, deception, manipulation... no one should be imitating someone who acts like that.
In our Bibles, John tells us the same thing, “Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God.”
Of course, Woody does what is right at the end, becoming the real hero we know and love. And so will you, as long as you imitate what is good. Imitate Christ, our Bibles tell us, and act the way Christians do. And as we do that, others may even want to imitate us! Why, you might even have a shark pop up beside you, and imitate you: “Howdy, howdy, howdy!”

We sort of bounce off of that thought with a game of charades, where kids act out various characters like Rex, Slinky Dog, Hamm and so on.  One of the more amusing characters to try and guess would be Stretch, the octopus.  In any event, that will be fun.  We also came up with a barrel of monkeys game and a memory verse game that should be fun.  The ideas keep rolling out, and this has turned out to be a pretty fun series.

Though it was church night for Daddy, it was bath night for Madison.  And homework night.  She did some catching up, and some catching up on sleep as well. Daddy did get home early enough to read from the latest Star Wars book, how several characters have escaped from the Chimera.  It's been a great series, and I think we'll probably have to read the next one for certain now.  We've been reading the devotional, and praying each night - tomorrow is a big day for Ba-Ba, and he's been on our hearts a lot.  The hurricane has shifted off, and that's been a blessing and answer to prayers.  Hopefully we'll see this other storm handled as well.
