Today was "Loop Day," which was another chance to sing "Run Rabbit Run" over and over again, much to Madison's annoyance. In my defense, she started it! Last year, she was singing that song over and over again just because she knew I was trying to get it out of my head.
We didn't really have much time to watch the movie, "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children," but a recent trip to the library got us the graphic novel of the book. Mommy and Daddy read the book a few years ago, and so we've been peeking at this graphic novel the last few days, and it's not too bad. Actually, we might go back to the library and get the sequels to it now.
So if today was a day to loop over and over again, it might not be that bad of a choice. Of course, like a bomb frozen in place directly over our heads, there are the looming threats of Dorian and this cancer diagnosis for Ba-Ba. First, the hurricane: it had forced the evacuations of thousands and thousands along the coast, but the good news for Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and yes, even Alabama, is that it is shifting northeast and it is weakening. Those poor folks in the Bahamas took the brunt of it, and absorbed much of this hurricane's energy to the point that the rest of us in the United States are left in the clear, breathing a sigh of relief. From the onset, nobody knew what was going on with this storm, and the general feeling was that nobody the Southeast was truly safe. Day after day, that's what we heard, and there was no reason to doubt it: this storm could have gone in any direction. And now it's staying out to sea, skirting the coast. There could be some flooding and damage, but it could be worse.
As for the other lingering news hovering over all our heads, that would be the appointment that Ba-Ba has on Thursday with an oncologist. The grandparents, like other Daytona residents, had evacuated the coastline. Nana and Ba-Ba have been in Orlando the last few days, and actually went over to Disney Springs for a short time. They're killing time now, waiting for the appointment that will set all our lives in motion for the remainder of the year. What kind of path to recovery will there be? We'll find out shortly, and we'll go through it together.
Madison was doing great today with some good science grades coming in. All her grades are great, and she tells us she's having a good time at school. Art cub starts this Friday, and the good news for her is that her "Live to Give" club is going to be at a time on Thursdays that she can squeeze in after school. As long as her grades stay in a positive direction, we told her she's good to go for all of this. And with the recent perfect score on a quiz in Language Arts, we think she's going to be fine. Busy, yes. But fine.
Speaking of keeping busy, today we had taekwondo. Madison was sparring, and using her combat sticks. The kids love the combat sticks, because it gives them a chance to whack each other. We don't have much time at home afterwards, at least not enough time to watch a full movie. But we are going through old episodes of "The Clone Wars," which Madison is liking. And yes, we read. We read a little of that book above, and we're still going through the latest Star Wars book as well. We were praying tonight for Ba-Ba, of course, and still praying about the storm, for the people in Bahamas. It was an average school day, and if we were to loop this one over and over again, it wasn't a bad day at all. We've got this lingering menace hovering over our heads like a bomb about to drop, but we'll put our trust in the Lord, as we've always done. He's always been faithful.
