National Taco Day

We're busy tonight, preparing a few last minute entries to the Quinlan Visual Arts Center tomorrow for the Annual Members' Exhibition.  Basically, Daddy and Madison were scrounging around for a few things we've done, while Mommy has had her act together with a painting that she did just this week, an acrylic pour that she's even framed.  Meanwhile, Daddy found a few frames and some artwork that Madison has done recently, which you can see here.

This was an enamel pour painting that Madison did at her art camp this summer, and it will look nice once we get it in the frame.  You'll see that picture here when we post a picture of it here, hopefully after we've seen it hanging on the walls there at the gallery.  Of course, they have the right to allow or dismiss any artwork, even though the the three of us are members.  Last year, all three of our works were accepted, and hung on the walls there a few months, which was pretty neat.  It was great to see the whole family's works hanging on the wall.

Today is National Taco Day, and we celebrated with gusto!  Mucho gusto!  Mommy had tacos ready for us tonight, and despite the fact that it was not Tuesday, we still managed to enjoy a few tacos at dinner time.  And we enjoyed a quick movie afterwards, or at least a Halloween-themed special, "Scared Shrekless."

We were working together on one of Madison's assignments for class tomorrow, one where she was answering guided questions about a book she's been reading this week in school.  Tonight, we read from another book, of course:  chapter two of "The End."  It's hard to believe as we count it down that there are just eleven more chapters to go with the Baudelaires.

Madison was at the dojo tonight, practicing her routine and reinforcing her stances and movements to a point that she'll be ready for her test next week.  This time next week, we'll have a yellow belt student - she's been orange for about three months now, so it was a pretty quick jump upwards.  I'm sure things will soon get progressively more challenging, and therefore longer.

This morning, Madison's class was temporarily stuck in their classroom.  I think it was her Language Arts class that had a stuck door.  Students were pushing on once side, and pulling on the other, but to no avail.  They were stuck, and that's odd when you think about it.  We have doors suddenly jamming at KidPak in the office area, and it's related to the tremendous rains of this summer.  After fifteen years or so, the building appears to be settling somewhat, and the frame of the doors has lowered just enough to make it difficult to close several of our doors downstairs.  It's a bit disconcerting.  Perhaps that is happening at the school as well.  Obviously, they did get out.  Madison was happy to tell this whole story, complete with the part of a male teacher doing a forward kick in order to knock the door open.

She got some more good grades today at school, and things are going well there again, despite a bad grade earlier this week.  That one sunk the average down somewhat, and hopefully there'll be opportunities to bring it back upwards a bit.  We'll see as time goes by.  It's an interesting place to see Madison challenged at school somewhat.  But she's rising above, and says she's not as overwhelmed as she was initially.  You can see her really trying hard with assignments.  We went through this one assignment tonight, and she was writing a whole lot, and there were things that needed correction.  She can be a little touchy about that sort of thing, but she saw the benefit of it in the end, of course.  Daddy does his best to be delicate about this or that, and the common sense is that in the end, better grammar will get you better grades.

Anyway, the assignment is done, and things are looking good.  Daddy spent the day working on this weekend's service, and some backtracking as well.  It was very hot outside, but very cold in the office with the air conditioning in overdrive this week.  Such a contrast!

Mommy and Madison came by after taekwondo, and picked up Daddy from the church.  Everyone had a pretty full day, but soon we were home doing even more.  We sat down with some popcorn for "Scared Shrekless," but really, Thursdays are just a pretty busy day each week.  Still, we made time for smiles and a deep breath, and a bit of fun.

And now... it's time to get back to work.  Mommy is painting the frame for Madison's painting.  Daddy and Mommy's works are ready to go, and Madison's is next.  We'll drop them off at the gallery tomorrow, and hopefully they'll find their way up on to some of the walls there once more.
