Sarsaparilla

Madison had her first sarsaparilla today, a word that sounds nothing like it is spelled.  But it drinks good, as we all decided.  For some reason, this is a cowboy drink, a cowboy soda.  Of course, cowboys at the saloon aren't going to march in there and order a sarsaparilla in front of the others.   Unless of course it's a Sioux City Sarsaparilla.  Anyway, the verdict was a pretty good thumbs up!  She likes root beer slightly better, but this was good too.  We got it from Cracker Barrel today, which we decided to frequent immediately after our visit to the chiropractor.  Madison loves those visits, and we all do actually.  Daddy wore a Hawaiian shirt, because that's what you do when visiting a chiropractor - Doc Williams has a collection of these, and so it's sort of become a tradition.

We did some Christmas shopping at Cracker Barrel, believe it or not.  We've started shopping online too, although we've purchased a few things here or there along the way this summer.  But it seems like we need to start doing things in earnest now, because the season is slipping by, isn't it?  That said, knowing time was fleeting, we made our reservations for an upcoming trip to Dollywood.  We'll stay in the same place we did last time, and it'll be a nice quick getaway.  Madison has been talking about Tennessee and Dollywood a lot.  She loves it, and so do we in the fall.  Last year had many great memories!

Madison was doing artwork today, and reading a bit too.  We also read a few comics from the "X-Men," this time about those pesky Acolytes and that super annoying villain Cortez.  The rate we're reading these, it'll still take some time to go through the entire collection.  It's been fun reading through these though, reliving old memories, and answering questions from Madison.  Daddy can't answer them all though, as sometimes even he doesn't remember where this story or that is going.

Tonight we watched "Coco" again, all part of our seasonal series.  The song "Remember Me," is now stuck in our heads, and it's a great song.  But it didn't deserve the Academy Award over anything on the soundtrack for "The Greatest Showman."  Sorry, Academy.  Once again, for the umpteenth time, you blew it.  I have my suspicions why more Academy members voted for this one, but it happens very frequently where things are done for purposes outside the merits and quality of the actual submitted work.

That was quite an aside there.  The song is great, so don't get me wrong.  It was stuck in our heads tonight, and even now as I type this.  And the movie is fantastic too.  I didn't think anything could top "Book of Life," as far as story and this theme go.  But this movie was just as good, if not better, and the three of us enjoyed it once again.

Madison had piano tonight, a word that shows up on this blog time and again.  We drove into town just for piano, and then drove back home.  Daddy sat in the car and wrote for KidPak, as he has been doing frequently.  Lots of things to write for, from blog entries to devotional entries to skits to sermons to ... well, you get the idea.  Lots of writing!

But it was a fun day today, a day off for us.  We played a few games and had a nice meal at Cracker Barrel, where we played a few more games.  Madison and Daddy play checkers there every single time.  Every.  Single.  Time.  Madison is getting better, working out strategies, but Daddy sort of helps her along in some ways.  But she's getting to a point where she's thinking of things on her own, and making surprising moves.  She's also learning the peg game, and almost has it down.  Almost!  Daddy has it memorized, of course.  So he's been training her a little, but she's wanting to earn this thing on her own, and she's almost got it down to one peg left.  She's been averaging about two pegs left, so clearly we have to keep going to Cracker Barrel to do more practice, right?  In fact, we'll probably go to a Cracker Barrel soon enough, one a little more distant from here.  But that's for another entry.  As for this entry, I believe we're done with this day.  It was a quiet day - and a warm day, by the way.  We're patiently waiting for Fall to show up.  It says it on the calendar, so hopefully the actual temperature will start to agree with what is written.  Until then, I think we'll cool off here with another ice cold sarsaparilla!
