Apefest Conquest

Tonight our Apefest continued!  Maddie had a bit of homework to do, but she was all-in for another visit to the Planet of the Apes.  Tonight's feature was "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes," a rather dystopian movie where the government seems amazingly overbearing, and for some reason society in general feels like it's a good idea to keep human-sized apes as slaves.  The star of this one is the college campus where this was filmed in California somewhere, this dystopian concrete wonderland where apes and mankind are at a crossroads, and things are heading down a path towards the Planet of the Apes.  It's all cheesy science fiction fun, a large amount of people wandering around in ape masks, and it is pretty dated - the movie was released in 1972, but was set way off in the future in the year 1991.  That's the same year Kevin McCallister defends his home against the Wet Bandits, so you know that things are tough!  It's wild that 1991 was so far off in the future.  Now, using some math here, that's thirty-three years ago!  Anyway, the movie was exactly what we remembered, a completely different "Apes" movie from the others, which makes it unique.  Now we've got one more of the five original movies to go - we could have seen it tomorrow night, but Maddie said she wanted to watch the next one with us.  She said "they're horrible, but I want to find out what happens next!"  We'll do that as Apefest continues on Thursday.

Meanwhile, today was a work day where we were working on "plan B" with the message for this weekend.  We're continuing with "Exodus" for one more week, and that being said, we're doing a new message based on the movie "Prince of Egypt."  I've sort of written something out, and I think it should work.  The movie pretty much preaches all by itself though, animating some very iconic moments in the book of Exodus.

Today Mom was at the oncologist for a regular check-up.  It's a new doctor, so she's getting some new bloodwork checked and we're moving forward based on those results.  Speaking off moving forward, I finished the walking challenge in iFit this morning, and have another badge in my virtual collection.  Tomorrow I'll be back to running a bit though.  Colorado awaits, specifically Mesa Verde.  There are some great destinations with this program.

Maddie had a decent day at school today.  She was pounding clay for a long time today, getting a good workout as she attempted to get the more solid bits easier to work with.  She's shown us some of her latest creation, and it's looking fun!

We made some reservations for an upcoming taekwondo event in Atlanta today.  The timing and location are a little off, but we're set for a few nights in Atlanta this summer. Who'd have thought I'd be making reservations for a hotel in Atlanta?  But there you go.

It was a quiet day, and a wet overcast day too.  The cloud cover was all day long, reemphasizing the perfect timing of the clear skies yesterday for the eclipse.  We didn't see the sun at all today, and it was raining and cold too.  It was still a good day though - we closed it out with a reading from Admiral Motti, "From a Certain Point of View," and then we said our prayers too.  Time for bed after that!
