South Carolina

So this was Madison's first time ever in South Carolina today, and this may seem hard to believe.  She was only a few miles from South Carolina several times in her life, but today she finally made it over the border, along with Daddy and Mommy for a "business trip."  More on that later.  First, the picture above - it's taken at the second rest area as you drive north on I-85.  I make a note of this because it is simply a beautiful rest area!  The trees decorate this picnic area that goes right up to the lake, and it makes for a perfect stop, really.  Most rest areas you don't stop to talk about much, but this one was actually pretty scenic.

In fact, there's someone else that thought so too.  If you look really close at the picture above, you can see someone seated on the stump, serenely looking out over the lake.  Oh, you can't see him?  Let's get a little closer:

Yes, we found Woody the Cowboy there, just resting on a stump.  The rule of toys is that they freeze when adults are around, and I have a feeling he was okay freezing right there.  We don't know where he came from exactly, or perhaps where he was going.  Our decision was to leave him right there to enjoy the scenery.  Perhaps some child will see him, pick him up, and give him a place to play.

Anyway, we moved on from there, and went up to Spartanburg.  So our reason for being in Spartanburg was simple:  to help clean the church up there.  We were at Free Chapel Spartanburg, and there has been much talk about a prop room filled with costumes and props and so forth.  Mommy and Daddy were spending a good deal of time sorting things there, throwing some dated stuff out and picking through other items as well.  We also did the tour for Mommy and Madison, as it was their first trip here:

Here they are in the main sanctuary, which is quite big.  It was a longer day today, mainly because it takes two hours to get up there, and two hours to get back.  Plus all the time spent moving things around there, and here.  So we were pretty tired by the time we got back.  But we're glad we did it for a few reasons, including getting the place a bit more tidy, plus getting to see the place for Madison and Mommy.  And yes, for the reason of crossing the state line for Madison.  Sadly, she didn't really get to see that much to actually do in South Carolina.  It was just a big hot, muggy state that sells fireworks.   I know there's more to South Carolina than that.  Like Sassafras Mountain, Charleston, Ft. Sumter, Hilton Head and Hootie and the Blowfish.  That's all I can think of now, but for now, it's a start.  Until next time, "See ya, SC!"
