We made the long drive today to Daytona, and it was a fairly easy journey this time, as it was Saturday and right after the Fourth of July. All the traffic was coming north, and we were going south, so it was a good trip for us. We have our car back, and we coated the windshield so that the rain wouldn't really affect us - which turned out to be a good move. There was a significant rain storm on I-10 before Jacksonville, but we went through it without any problem at all. We got to Daytona Beach just in time for a huge race again - we heard another race going on at the speedway. And then we got to the beach, and were greeted with a double rainbow of ginormous proportions. This thing was one of the most epic rainbows I'd ever seen. We didn't get a good photo of the scale, but there was enough of it left when we finally pulled up to the condo, where Daddy snapped this photo, along with the silhouette of palm trees.
We were warmly greeted by the grandparents, and it was early too. We got there pretty quickly! It was nice to spend some time talking and catching up, and as the night fell, there were still plenty of fireworks left to shoot off at the beach.
These were set off by locals, or visitors at least. They were pretty impressive, but the next day we found a bunch of firework material still on the beach. This sort of sums up the problem with localized fireworks on the Fourth of July: the mess left over. While it was all in the street and cleaned up at the neighborhood, this was just left on the beach. These were nice, but eventually somebody will have to be responsible and clean it up...
Anyway, mixed feelings about that part, obviously. Nice picture though - red, white and blue, and the reflection in the pool. Hopefully the firework usage will taper off as the week goes on. The weather seems nice outside currently, cool with a slight breeze and the sound of ocean waves roaring in. We're here for a bit longer this time, and it should be a nice little getaway to the beach again.
