Newsies

This morning we started out our KidPak service, one dedicated to "The Greatest Showman," and you can see how Daddy and Josh were upstairs, promoting it.  Daddy was juggling, and Josh was on stilts, both of us posing for pictures with various members and visitors, all up until the last moment when we were heading down to help Camille with the message.

Daddy passed the message on to her, and she did a fantastic job with the movie clips.  You can see here how Mommy arranged the ringmaster costume, which followed the first scene we showed, the one where Barnum looks into the window and sees his reflection in a ringmaster costume.  We also set up the other scene wonderfully, where Camille had the wishing machine there on stage, in the dark with a sheet behind her.  If you could make a wish, what would you wish for?

It was a great morning at KidPak, and afterwards, we didn't go straight home.  Instead, we were off to Lumpkin County High School to see a play!  Before going on, the mountains were beautiful on the drive there.  A tremendous storm was rolling through, and the dark skies mixed with filtering sunlight was just a wonderful thing to behold.  We found the high school with no problem, and found good seats to see "Newsies!"

This is the cast above, or at least part of it.  It was a big cast.  There were a lot of people here to see the play, including Josh and his sister Amy.  Madison wanted to sit next to Amy, and spent a lot of time talking to her about... well, just about everything.  Mommy and Daddy were seated a few chairs down from her, and were laughing because Madison was so excited to sit next to Amy that she didn't stop talking all the way up until the beginning of the play!

As for the play itself, they did a splendid job!  None of us in this family had ever seen "Newsies" before, but after this play, we'll probably be getting the DVD soon enough.

It was great going into this, having no idea what to expect, except of course knowing that somewhere in here there's someone wanting to sell a newspaper or something!

But of course, it's so much more than that.  Madison enjoyed the play, as did all of us.  You can see Mr. Pulitzer being portrayed by one of our friends, Clint, at left there.  He did a great job.  The play even contains a few bits of things current to today's news:  fake news, and misuse of the police.  Not that this is a political story - the entire thing is based on these kids fighting back against an injustice, and that's something everyone should be able to get behind.  It helps to have song-and-dance numbers though, and this play has plenty of those.

We got home a little later, driving through the rain a bit, which stuck around the rest of the afternoon, apparently.  We played some games, visiting Hoth again, and also did some reading:  we stared "The Hostile Hospital" tonight.  We're moving right along with these books, which again, the girls love!

It's been another full day, so we're going to turn in early tonight.  Tomorrow morning, we start our final summer camp, another full week of art camp, and one with different activities and creations.  Madison's looking forward to this week very much!
