With the new "Noah" movie coming out in a month's time, we're doing something on Wednesday nights that's a little different. Mommy actually came up with this idea some time ago, the thought of doing an entire series dedicated to the story of Noah's Ark. Daddy and Mommy sat down and brainstormed a bit, and actually came up with seven three-point messages, none of it repetitive. It's a bigger story than just getting in a boat with all the animals, in fact.
Today, Daddy was prepping for this Wednesday a bit, getting it all set up for the launch of this Wednesday night only series. We watched "Evan Almighty," and found it was safe for Madison to watch as well - we'll probably do that soon. But this Wednesday night, we'll show clips from the movie to support the first message a bit. This should be fun.
Madison had a good day at school, despite a visit to the school nurse. She got a bruise from a random elbow at an assembly - there were apologies, as it was an accident. But it's always a little bit of a nervous moment when the school nurse calls home.
We got home and finished our piano practice for the week, so Madison earned herself another disc. Nana had it this time, Abu as an elephant. She tried it out fairly soon, but right after that it was time for the family to make our trip to PF Chang's. We've had this gift card, and we thought it would be a good idea - for one, we never did a Chinese New Year celebration.
So off we went, and we were impressed with their gluten-free section. The family decided - for the sake of Mommy - to forsake anything with gluten at all. We all ate gluten free tonight.
Or so we thought. Evidently there was something in there that had gluten in it, because Mommy had a pretty bad reaction. It lasted over an hour - we thought we communicated Mommy's extreme reaction to gluten, but apparently the message wasn't clear enough. The end result is that I'm not entirely sure if we can go to PF Chang's anymore. It's nothing personal, but if we can't trust the people to get us a safe entree, then we can't go.
Still, while we were eating, things were pleasant enough. Madison loves egg drop soup, and we were all quite full by dinner's end. That's when Mommy's allergic reaction starting rearing it's ugly head.
We got home, and while she was recovering, it was pretty much time for Madison to go to bed. Daddy read to her one of the Noah books we have. There are about three, from Jan Brett's version to a scruffy dog version to this Mark Lowry book we picked up, which plays off the theme of Old McDonald. Madison enjoyed hearing that, and there was some good in the moment, as we right there and then decided the course of direction to take for Mommy's display case, which had to be ready this weekend. Until now, we've been lost trying to find storm chasing equipment, and wondering if it would be enticing enough. But a simply Noah's Ark display should work out just fine, and you'll no doubt be seeing pictures of the completed project here on this blog by this weekend.
Of course, there was a comic book to read as well. This is becoming fairly mandatory.
As for Mommy, she recovered, although as usual was quite weakened. We watched a whole lot of Doofenshmirtz Daily Dirt on the computer, and laughed quite a bit, which was needed. And then we talked about bit about Noah - always planning ahead. Speaking of which, here are the messages that she and I developed, the ones that lead up to the release of this new movie. This is what we'll be talking about during our series, "Don't Miss the Boat."

“It’s All Part of the Plan”
When Noah first heard from God, it had to
be quite a traumatic experience. Imagine someone you trust very much
telling you the whole world would be destroyed with a worldwide flood?
It’s a good thing Noah had decided to seek
higher ground. Throughout his life, Noah
didn't lower himself, and become like the others on earth. It's a
good thing, too. That's what kept him above the flood when it
came. It's a sinking feeling, falling into temptation!
Despite the tough news that came his way,
he remembered a truth that we should cling to:
it’s all part of the plan. Things
can happen that we don't understand, but we must remember that God is in
control. Trust Him, because everything works out in the end for
those who believe.
When we trust in God like that, He’ll take care of us, and every need. In fact, where God guides, He provides. If God wants you to do something, He'll give you what you need to do it. For example, Noah had three triplet sons born to him, just in time to help build a massive ark. God gave Noah the time to construct it, and He gave him all the wood to create this huge boat. He even gave him all the details he needed, recorded right there in the Bible.

He’ll do the same for you. The Bible tells us that God will provide all
your needs, because you belong to Jesus.
And as we enter the Days of Noah,
perhaps the upcoming storm may seem a little scary. Just remember to seek higher ground like
Noah. Where God guides, He provides –
and despite all you see going on, remember it’s all part of the plan.

“Two by Two”
God wanted to save them. Two by
two, the animals journeyed to that ark, starting an incredible adventure that
would change the world. As we remember
those amazing animals from the story of Noah, we can learn from them and their
story.
For example, we must keep at it in all we
do. Just “gopher it!" By
perseverance, those snails reached the ark too. Sure, they were the
last ones on the boat – but they made it in the end, and they sure had time to
enjoy the journey more! Similarly, Noah
ignored the critics, and just kept building, using his gopher
wood. He kept at it too, didn’t he?
Don't give up, or grow weary in well doing. You will reap a
reward!
Two is better than one. Two by two, those animals arrived, perhaps
from some pretty big distances. We are put here to work
together: don't struggle alone, when you
were designed to get help from your friends. When the church works
together as one body, we can do amazing things!
One last thing those creatures did was
this: they got in line. Those animals poured into the ark, lined up
and walking up the ramp. There’s something big to learn here. If we're going to get under that important
covering, we need to submit and "get in line," following the
authority of those God put in charge.
It must have been amazing for Noah and his
family to see these animals marching with such purpose. They kept at it, worked together, and got in
line. And they changed the world, two by
two.

“Don’t Miss the Boat”
It must have been a terrifying moment to
be on the wrong side of that door. The
Bible tells us that God Himself shut the door to the ark, and from that moment
on, Noah and his family – and all those animals – were safe under His
protection.
A different sort of storm is coming, one
that will last much longer than forty days and nights. But God wants us all on the right side of the
door – He does not want anyone to perish, but have eternal life. You are worth saving: Jesus paid an awful price for you, and wants
you safe and sound with Him in heaven forever.
But time is short. Imagine all those people watching the animals lined up, two-by-two, walking into a large boat, despite the fact that it had never rained before. There was still time for them to change, to seek God and turn from sinful lives. The signs are all around, and if we want to be safe on board with God's plan, we need to recognize what season we’re in, and stay in close communication with Him. But most of all, we need to be saved and on the right side of that door, under His grace.

Whatever you do, just don’t let the door
shut on you. What a horrible moment that was for those outside the ark. We
must tell everyone we can, and keep ourselves safe - nobody wants to be on the
outside when God shuts that door.
“The Lord is not slow to keep His
promise,” the Bible says. “He is not
slow in the way some people understand it.
He is patient with you. He
doesn’t want anyone to be destroyed.
Instead, He wants all people to turn away from their sins.”
If we truly love the Lord, we know how much He does love His people. We’ll want to tell this message to ourselves, and anyone we can: “Don’t miss the boat!”

“The Promise”
Noah climbed out of the ark into a brave
new world. It was the end of a remarkable adventure, and yet still the
beginning of all things.
As the creatures poured out of the ark, two by two, a rainbow spread across the skies, a beautiful promise from God that stands to this day. Believe God’s promises: The rainbow assured Noah that this would never happen again. And it didn't. God’s word is filled with promises for you and me. If God says it, you should believe it!
After his adventure on the ark was over, Noah built an altar right away, giving thanks. It is literally the first thing he did when he stepped on dry land: he stopped everything to give thanks. And that's the first thing we should always do - entering His gates with Thanksgiving. There is so much to be thankful for, in fact more than we realize.
Noah was safe, as was his family – and all those animals. But there was a job to do. After the ark, God's command to Noah was to be fruitful. But that’s our job too: God wants us to be fruitful! If we're not doing anything for God and His Kingdom, then we're not being fruitful.
