Maddie had her small groups again, still going three years later and she and the other girls just don't miss it. It's a wonderful time of sharing and praying, and just a chance to be open with one another. I have no idea lately what is said in small groups so much, as the girls are getting older and Camille is a good trusted person to just listen and offer advice where she can. That's completely okay with us. Meanwhile, Mom and I were watching part two of the Dexter Riley trilogy, "Now You See Him, Now You Don't."
I'm loving these old movies, really helping us gear up towards another weekend at "Weird Science." The students riding around in that buggy are such a great gang - makes me wish I went to Medfield! The villain in this is again the nefarious AJ Arno, and Dean Higgins is really funny in this one on the golf course. We forgot about a few things on this one, but Mom and I were laughing at some of the lines and characters throughout. Ultimately, the science department saved the college again, winning the big grant, thanks to the work of all those students.
Today we were getting ready for Weird Science in other ways. We had a few college students helping out today with the Van De Graaff generator - it worked so much better than I could have imagined! We had a long-haired student (also named Madison!), and she had her hand on that thing just long enough for all her hair to stand on edge. It was amazing! We tried a few other tricks, and all seems to be in order for a demonstration on Sunday morning at KidPak.
Maddie had taekwondo tonight, helping with the students in the younger classes first as an assistant instructor, but then also as a student herself in leadership class. I was working on writing the script for this weekend a little as Maddie was training on the mat.
Rose-breasted grosbeak |
We had a new bird visitor today, a rose-breasted grosbeak! We actually had a few of them frequenting our bird feeders, munching on the safflower seeds. They're beautiful birds, and brought a smile to our faces as they came in to dine. We still have two irritating squirrels though - one of them actually knocked the bird feeder off the back deck. So we're not done with our squirrel removing quite yet. These two will find themselves in a new sanctuary soon.
Anyway, we closed out the day with an episode of "Ultimate Spider-man" and then reading from our book again. Plus prayers. It was a good day today, although rainy and cold. But we got some things done and had some fun along the way.
