The last time we did this "Level Up" series, I had written a skit for the "fight the good fight of faith" message, and it was ridiculous. It involved E. Honda from Street Fighter, and it was really just an homage to that character, with a general theme of sumo wrestling involved, which I actually did a minuscule bit of research to learn a bit more about. But E. Honda needed a foe, a video game sumo wrestler in keeping with the theme, and that's when I remembered Sumo Santa from "Clayfighter 63 1/3."
I knew this skit was going to get big laughs from the get-go, just because you have these two actors in these hilarious inflatable sumo wrestler costumes. Add to that the fact that Sumo Santa is wearing a red one, and he's got a Santa beard and hat. Jingle this!
At one point, both of them fall down and roll about like Ralphie's brother from "A Christmas Story." It was a completely bonkers skit, and a fun way to close out our "Level Up" series, and I didn't get to say this above, but for some reason, we never did this skit before. That's right, it's been sitting in the archives, waiting to reemerge someday, and today was that day. I've had this dormant skit for years, and today was a great day to bring it out into the light. The kids loved it, and it was so weird and funny, and I think maybe two grown-ups in the audience (including myself and Josh) had any idea at all that Sumo Santa was a real video game character. And the others probably had no idea that E. Honda was one either. It didn't matter - I knew the suits would sell it.
Maddie wasn't in the skit this morning, and her friend Skylar wasn't feeling well. So she volunteered behind the camera, and all the pictures you see here of this morning were taken by her, and then some. We loaded those up on the official church website as they looked pretty good!
It was a fun morning! Strangely enough, we use a lot of inflatable sumo suits with FCY and KidPak. It's just one of those things that gets kids laughing easily. I have mostly the pictures Maddie took of the skit here, but there were many others of the worship portion and the message and other games. It was a good day.
Anyway, we got home, and we finished up the rest of our Easter pasta today, these bits of pasta shaped like eggs, rabbits and even baskets. It's the Orthodox Easter today, although for us, the Easter holiday is largely over. We even took the eggs off the tree. Tomorrow, we'll pack up Happy Hollow as we get ready for the next holidays.
We were doing a bit of laundry of those Easter costumes today, and we did catch squirrel number seven. Eight and nine will be later on, but I had to take number seven to the sanctuary. Meanwhile, we watched a few movies in the background, including "Lyle Crocodile," which was fun, and then later on as we all sat down there was "Yes Day," which was actually really good. We were laughing out loud at a few parts, as it was a pretty fun movie.
Maddie and I had some gaming time together, playing Marvel Battlegrounds for the first time in what seems like forever. We also had a round of "Wheel of Fortune," where Maddie got the final answer with seconds to go - it was "ONLINE BANKING." But Marvel Battlegrounds was the main event, as we lugged up all those Disney Infinity characters again, placing them on the stand one at a time to activate each of them. And yes, we either played as or played against all of them, teaming up with themes like "green characters vs. green characters." Or, "guys with cloaks." And so on. It was fun though.
We were outside weeding for a bit, or at last I was. That's the new issue with the front lawn - weeds. We'll have to figure that one out soon. It was a relaxing afternoon following a pretty successful morning at KidPak. Things are back to normal at church following the bit production, although there's still a lot of cleaning and straightening up to do.
We closed out tonight by finishing up our book "The Last Hero," and finishing the stories that have Rincewind as a main character in them. He's got a cameo or two upcoming, and of course there were plenty other principal characters in this book too, and we'll hear more from them in the coming novels, Captain Carrot in particular. But for now, we're closing out our run with the Discworld, and starting on that new book Maddie got in her Easter basket last week, the latest Kingdom Keepers book. So as always, the Plush Entourage came down to our room for the reading time, and then traveled back to Maddie's room after prayers. We got to sleep on time tonight, as we've got to get up early tomorrow - it's back to school time!
