Today was the end of Milestones for Fifth Grade, which is a milestone moment from the Milestones. I think it's called a Milestone milestone. Anyway, she's done. To celebrate, the kids watched movies in the classrooms - they could pick the room based on whatever movie was playing in there. Sadly, nobody had "The Greatest Showman" playing in their classroom. On the other hand, that may have been a wise choice, as the entire female population of Chestatee's Fifth Grade would be in one room. No, instead they were some older choices, like "Frozen" and "Moana."
Mommy and Daddy were in the school this morning. Signs were posted in the middle of hallways warning people to not make any noise at all when going down the halls. The reason for this is simple: those monsters from "A Quiet Place" can hear you, and they'll attack any students foolish enough to make a sound. No, obviously that's not true: they're testing.
So Daddy and Mommy brought our brass instruments and... no, not that either. We had a meeting with Madison's teacher and speech teacher. We decided to continue Madison's speech therapy next year in middle school. This is not where we wanted to be, but Madison hasn't really received that much attention, I guess because she isn't a "fire that needs to be put out." Meaning, there are other people with much more significant speech deficiencies, and Madison can get by. And she's gotten by so far, but middle school is a place where a series of unfortunate events can happen at any given time. And now, we're stuck trying to figure out how to help her with her speaking.
We'll have to focus this summer on speech, and "do it ourself" in some ways. But we're also looking into revisiting a speech therapist that Madison likes, and used to see all the time. She's since changed jobs and locations - she's actually closer now. But we have to start doing all we can. An old friend came by the office today and encouraged me. He was dyslexic, and had trouble speaking himself. But there was a time where things just "fell into place," and he just became self aware, and immediately started focusing on fixing the issue. Hopefully we'll see that happen this summer, before middle school.
So what else happened today? Madison is taking a test soon, one that will determine if she can be in the accelerated program in middle school. She seems to have everything together for that, and it seems likely, but we're not going to jump out and say she's going to be in the program. After all, the last time we did this, we found out she wasn't in the gifted program after all, and it was all sort of an immense let-down. So we'll see. Either way, it'll be okay, really.
Tonight we had ballet, and after that, pteranodons. Yes, we were back playing LEGO Jurassic World again. And speaking of ginormous things, there's a corpse flower blooming in Arizona today. We were watching the live cam of that. Ah, if only someone could market some "corpse flower" candles, and "corpse flower" scented bubble bath. It's on our bucket list: we want to someday see one bloom in person. But tonight, we'll only dream of that.
Okay, maybe not "dream" of it. Tonight we were reading about Turkey and mannequins again. Of course, with Turkey, things are a little unsettled tonight in that region. But back when this was written, there's a hint of romance about this far off exotic location. Today, I could honestly say that the Mideast is one of the last places I'd like to voluntarily visit as a tourist. Other than Israel, of course. The rest of the Mideast? I would probably rather visit Antarctica. I remember seeing Palestine when I was in Bethlehem, and Jordan would be interesting. Egypt, of course, would be interesting. But you can have the rest of it. Go ahead. Take it. I'm good.
So anyway, yeah: we read about that tonight. And we prayed, and read from our devotional. Madison has been sweet at night, letting us know she loves us, and just being a sweetheart. We love her too!
