You know you're in Florida when you see a sign that reads "JESUS IS RISEN - FEED AND HOLD LIVE GATORS."
It was a long trip today, especially the length of road between Atlanta and Macon, which was under construction. Big surprise that Henry County had a lot of traffic. We may avoid this altogether on the way back, going through Athens and so forth. It's been a while since we've gone that route, but this morning's steady traffic was so bad, and for no apparent reason other than construction during the Spring Break migration, which is a perfect time to do that sort of thing of course.
As soon as we got past Macon, things were remarkably smoother. The temperature is warmer, but the clouds of yellow were as thick as a foggy morning, so ominous. We were taking medication to help out with that, and keep the inside circulation running, and not letting air in from outside. We're big believers in recycling. Air, that is.
We made it to the stop at the Florida Welcome Center just in time, and had our traditional free orange juice. Plus we picked up some pamphlets for different vacation destinations. Just checking out Disney, we saw just how much the ticket prices have increased. We used to go to Disney World as many as three times a year, but at least twice a year. But... today it costs $129 per ticket per day now. So we might not really go even once a year. Pricewise, that's $129 times three of us, if we were considering going down for a day. Which, we were. But I think $390 could be more wisely spent elsewhere, at the moment. Sadly, we're sort of phasing out Disney World at the moment for more financially realistic destinations. It used to be a place we went to three times a year. But add in another $100 or so for food by the time the day is done - and that's $500. And all this is before considering actually staying on the property, where prices have also risen astronomically. On the less costly side, we're talking $200 a night. So that's $700 per day, without souvenirs or extras. Three days of this is $2,100, right? This is why we're more likely to do the cruises lately. It's just a lot of separate costs and effort to do the parks anymore. It was fun while it lasted, and we may go back again in time. But it's a good time to take a break from all that.
Anyway, moving on: we listened to a lot of Riders Radio Theater on the way down, which always helps pass the time. Meanwhile, Madison was watching movies and playing games, plus doing a bit of homework in the back seat. She was also sleeping pretty heavily at one point. So was Mommy.
Daddy is pretty tired tonight, not only because of the long ride, but because of the long week. Tomorrow might be a complete collapse sort of day, just somehow recovering, sitting around on the balcony overlooking the ocean.
It was a happy reunion, anyway. We got here late in Daytona, but the grandparents were happy to see us, and we were happy to see them. We told stories, caught up for a bit, and had tea, of course. That's a must. But the weather is fine here, and we're ready to sit back and relax. Daddy should be sleeping pretty well tonight. I think all of us will...
