Another day of testing for Madison. This one was a bit different, being science. She said she did well, and finished in the middle of the pack as far as the amount of time she finishes goes. We've told her again that it doesn't matter how fast, but how good your answers are. But I think her answers are going to be fine.
To celebrate the end of a full week of testing, the students were allowed to bring games in. Madison is a big UNO fan, so she brought in a deck of UNO cards, and that was that. She was ready for some serious UNO. Other people brought in UNO decks, so it's entirely possible that there were tres UNOs or even cinco UNOs in the classroom. Anyway, she had a good day at school. Afterwards, she and Mommy drove straight over to see Mrs. Pam for a personal class, just the two of them. The function of the class was to work on this one song, "Tightrope," and modify it in a way that Madison can hopefully have it mastered in time for class. It's possible. The thing is, the other students are in similar predicaments, with a long way to go on their selections as well. We'll see how it all unfolds. No matter what, we're proud of Madison for keeping up with it.
The temperatures are cool again, cooler still. Adding insult to injury is the high pollen count. It's nearly unbearable here this year, the pollen. Seriously, Daddy is so over the pollen. It's never affected him before until this year, at least not to this level where there needs to be medication. Frequent throat clearing and drainage... sinus troubles... multiply this by all the other sad pollen victims in the Southeast. We look forward to the rain, glorious droplets of water that descend from the heavens to disperse the vile pollen away. It is a Yellow Scourge upon us, this evil mist!
Daddy got home tonight, and we spent some time watching another episode of "Lost in Space," the new series that just started. It's been okay, but Madison is enjoying it and requested another episode. So we saw the next one, and will probably keep on watching throughout the coming weeks, although obviously not at the same furious pace that we were watching "A Series of Unfortunate Events." Anyway, this has been good. It's just that nothing beats that old campy series "Lost in Space" from before. That was fun stuff.
Less fun was tonight's episode of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.", which was a really dark episode for younger ones, like Madison. She didn't seem troubled by it, but my parent alarms were going off at the end, after it was too late really. I had no idea we were going there - basically one of Madison's favorite actresses died in a pretty horrific way. Sure, she was playing a really awful villain. But still... wow.
There was a bit of Minecraft in between all of this, and Daddy was still doing a bit of writing, and collecting images for the fifth grade slide show. Apparently, there's a bigger slide show that has images from the entire year. Daddy has been taking pictures all year long, so he's got quite a collection to share. These were assembled tonight, put into a folder on an extra drive, and ready to share probably Monday morning.
And that's pretty much our day. We got our new music sheets and Madison was already off playing the new arrangement tonight. It'll take a bit of time to master, and she doesn't have as much of that time. But she'll do her best, and we'll be sure to help out wherever we can. One motivational reward for her mastery of the song: we told her we would get a copy of "The Greatest Showman." That got her excited!

The Yellow Scourge, an evil mist,
its floating fingers grasped and kissed
a weary land, wary of trees.
Hold on, I think I have to sneeze.
Achoo! I'm done, now where was I?
Ah yes, as tears stream from my eyes
not from grief, these drops have fallen.
It's all this stupid, blasted pollen!
So stay indoors, where you can hide,
Don't let it see you! Stay inside!
And join us in our mournful dirge
as we lament the Yellow Scourge!
