Well, it's Pi Day again, and as you can see above, Daddy got some pi in the classroom. Okay, it was "pie," and it was "in his face." But we had a lot of fun with class tonight, talking about pi a little of course. We showed this video below, the most famous pie fight that we ever had:
We even handed out to all the kids some oatmeal pies, which were greatly appreciated of course. Daddy had some pie earlier in the evening, but we'll get to that shortly.
The day started out as they always do this time of year: early. And cold. It's in the thirties out there. The Northeast has been dealing with blizzard after blizzard, and even though spring officially starts next week, you wouldn't know it here.
We were talking about 3.14 today, about π. We were talking about pi this morning, because why not. We even had an old indie game on the X-Box set up, one that helps you learn the digits of π. Madison knows a good deal of them, perhaps about seven or eight digits in. She hasn't gotten to that point in her education yet, but when she does, it should be smooth sailing. Because her parents are geeks. AND, because her parents are geeks, she brought a card in to give to Mr. Reed, her math teacher. It was a Pi Day card, and it came with a moon pie. She said he laughed at it.
She had a good day at school, and Mommy and Daddy did their things today too. Mommy is amazing. She's been working on an Uma costume for the "Descendants" series that we have. She made a hat and pants today, and they look fantastic. Meanwhile, Daddy was working on handouts and also tonight's service, as well as meeting about Easter, which is coming soon. The guy in blue you see above has been with KidPak a long time, but today was his last day, as he's moving out to Texas with his wife and child. We had a dinner together tonight together, one to say goodbye, and send him off with our well wishes. And then Daddy raced back home for some pie!
Mommy made a gluten free pie, and Daddy used some whipped cream to create the π symbol on it. And then we sat down together to enjoy some tasty dessert together. And it was really good!
But it was a Wednesday night, and Daddy couldn't stay long. At least we got to spend some time together, which was nice. As we wrap up another Pi Day, here's just a small part of what Daddy was sharing in class tonight with the kids at KidPak - shortly before getting a pie in the face.
This amazing number π is found in anything round. Anything! Take the measurements around a penny, a monster truck tire, a golfball, or even something immensely large like the sun. Divide that circumference by the diameter and you always wind up with π. Always!
It’s hidden right there in plain sight, all around us. But isn’t that just like our Heavenly Father? He’s in everything. He’s right there in plain sight for those with eyes to see, an invisible presence that is into every detail of our lives.
One more thought: anyone familiar with all this knows the number π is not exactly 3.14. That’s just the number rounded off. The number goes on and on, in fact. Here’s just the first eighty-five digits of π:
3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197169399375105820974944592307816406286208998628…
After that, it just goes on an on and on. As of 3/14 (today), mathematicians have gotten to 22 trillion digits, and there’s still no end in sight to this amazing number.
The point is this: it’s infinite, and it’s everywhere. But similarly, so is God. He’s in every detail, and everything about Him is infinite, including His love for us.
So celebrate 3/14 with us! Have a piece of pie, and consider how incredible our God is with every single aspect of our lives, and so full of an infinite love for each and everyone one of us!
