It was our Easter Festival today, this being the name we settled on after months of debate about the name "Eggstravaganza." For the record, Madison prefers the name "Eggstravaganza," versus this new generic festival name. Regardless, she had a wonderful time today. Here she is at the end of the day, posing with Daddy - er, I mean the Easter Bunny, who was literally sitting on that bench for four hours straight. There was a line that wrapped around a fence and then some, and that line remained in place for four hours. I can't even begin to estimate how many pictures Daddy is in from this festival, but there were thousands of people at this festival. Given that normally, this sort of picture will cost you $20-$25 and up at the mall, waiting in line wasn't such an ordeal.
Madison was having fun at the egg hunts - there were two for her age bracket. I think she said she wound up getting about ten eggs. Of course, these aren't egg hunts. I think a name for next year's event should be "Egg Scramble." Because that's what it is. We have several round throughout the afternoon. Let's just look at one of these: over 3,000 plastic colored eggs are placed on the grass, around objects and so forth. Then, hundreds of kids line up along the perimeter of this grassy area. A countdown takes place, and then, in literally less than a minute, all 3,000 eggs are "gathered." Actually, I think someone timed it at nine seconds. So by gathered, I mean, a frantic race against time and everyone else to get as many eggs as possible. There is no "hunting" going on here. It's all about grabbing as many plastic eggs off the ground as you possibly can in as short a time as possible.
So when I heard Madison got ten eggs by the end of the day, I was pretty impressed. That sort of number usually would require someone used to playing rugby. But she had a great time, and despite the speed that these egg hunts go at, there's plenty of other things to do. For example, Madison was going on a pony ride a few times, really enjoying that. She also did some inflatables, and got her face painted. There were balloon animals and carnival rides, and because Madison got there early, she was able to do whatever she wanted for a few hours. In fact, by the end of it all, she was rather tired and ready to actually head home. She had a great day!
We got home, and rest was the order of the day. Mommy made us a remarkable meal - Daddy had a delicious fish dinner. And shortly after that, Madison was back with Minecraft. It's okay, as she is on her spring break now. We were packing the rest of the day, getting ready for that spring break. And yes, there was season 2 of "A Series of Unfortunate Events." We started that tonight, together, and as it got later, we watched a second episode.
We're done with "CJ's Pirate Chase," a "Descendants" book about CJ Hook, of course Captain Hook's daughter. It was fun, and all three of us were into it until the end. That said, because of the series we're in, we just might start "Freddie's Shadow Cards" next. We'll see how that goes.
We said our prayers tonight, and read from our devotional as well. And then it was time for bed, at least for Madison. Daddy and Mommy did a bit of work after she went to bed, although fatigue was setting in, especially for Daddy, who was battling insomnia last night. But we did do a bit of setting up for tomorrow: here's a sneak peek at something for Madison's Easter basket tomorrow: Porg Easter eggs!
