The costumes were great, as you can see above, and the morning was a huge success. It's always a little scary tackling characters or themes that the kids are quite familiar with, but we treaded with care and balanced things out to get laughs, and get those wonderful gasps that the kids make when something surprises them. Carlos enters and the kids are so amazed, you could hear the excitement in the audience. And of course when Mal and Dizzy enter, it got even better.
The cast is so talented, but Mommy was the star of the morning for many of us, putting all these costumes together over the last few days. They turned out so well, and the actors just had a ball on stage. You can see below what happens when an old lady with a rose shows up at King Beast's front door. Is it the same lady?
The answer to that is left ambiguous, but the point is made: we treat everyone with love and respect, no matter what they look like. Madison really enjoyed it from the audience perspective, including one of her new favorite characters, Carlos.
He has a funny line or two this morning, and got some laughs. He was dancing to "Be Our Guest," from the movie "Descendants," a soundtrack we all have memorized by now. The cast, for the most part, are all big fans of the movies, so that helps a lot of course.
And with the girls, it's always about Mal, who you can see above. Camille did such a great job with this performance, and really looks the part. Madison is probably wanting to be Mal again for Halloween this year!
Here's Dizzy, Mal and Carlos. Dizzy's outfit is what Camille wore to Fall Festival last year, so she had it around still. We just gave that over to Mary Shannon, who nailed her role. We'll probably center the story around her somewhat next week, as the message is entirely based on the movie "Descendants." This week's message was based on "Be Our Guest," and it sort of followed some of the events of "Beauty and the Beast."
It was a good morning, in any event. These pictures are just from the drama portion, but as with each morning there's a message preached, a worship band, videos, and a game as well (set to the music of "Be Our Guest"). It's a fun-filled morning and one filled with memories.
It also wears you out! We got home, and we were pretty toasted. Daddy took an extensive nap, while Madison played piano and did some Minecrafting. Mommy was napping a bit, and looking up more costuming for further parts in this series.
Tonight, we watched "Coco" before bedtime, and part of it was knowing the movie was up for an Academy Award tonight. It turns out it won, so the timing was good. We went into it, wondering if it could be better than "Book of Life," which also is about the Day of the Dead, and a pretty good movie. We liked that one a lot, and it would be tough to beat. This movie "Coco" was spectacular, heartwarming and a visual treat. All three of us loved it greatly.
Soon after, it was bedtime. We read more from Nancy Drew, and started our new "Legends" devotional, but it was bedtime a little more quickly tonight than other times: everyone is still a bit tired from all the work getting the new series going. But it was a great start, one that all of us will always remember fondly.
