Cinco de Mayo

Another day to sleep in!  Sort of.  We're not staying in too much.  One thing that stops sleeping in too much is the natural alarm clock - the bluebirds.  They seem to love attacking windows.  Perhaps it is their reflection, I don't know.  But we're able to shoo them away by closing blinds or whatever.  But that tapping is usually there in the morning, and sometimes it's a complaint about squirrels at the feeder, or perhaps just a general grievance about the lack of food out there.  "Come on!  Get up!  Get our food out here - we're hungry!"

Today is Cinco de Mayo, and our way of celebrating has usually been a bigger version of Taco Tuesday at night.  We've got all these Herb Alpert vinyl records, and we pop those in as we fix tacos with grilled chicken, beef, peppers, onions, melted cheese and all the fixings to make a masterpiece of a taco.  This morning, Maddie knew it was Cinco de Mayo right away because of the table decor there.

We'll have to try that game "Throw Throw Burrito" some time, although Maddie recommends we do that in a place with padded walls and/or a safe spot without any breakable objects on shelves nearby.  Evidently the throwing part could get serious!

It was a good day.  Maddie was spending a lot of time - a lot of time - working on schoolwork, which has been overwhelming at times.  It's a season, and it will pass and make that rest time much easier.  Mom and I were working at the church for a bit on Weird Science, and getting a lot done actually.  We're ready for Sunday with a skit that focuses a little on biology and a little on astronomy as the Sun is at the center, unlike what people before Copernicus thought.  Geocentric people thought the universe was all about them, and that's of course not the truth.  Our lives revolve around the sun, and of course from a theological point of view, our lives revolve around the SON.  There's a bit of inspiration there from an old Sara Groves song.  I find inspiration in a lot of these messages by going back to older Christian songs that I love.  Anyway, it should be a good Sunday.  We've got a lot of cast members and craziness and funny slides and so on.  Plus the refurbished Wisenheimer Invention, a device we've been using since 2003 maybe?  Yeah, it's twenty years old.  A newer model of it was gifted to us by a member of the OC congregation that was a Disney Imagineer, so we cherish the latest model - it's a real work of art with LED lights all over.  Fantastic stuff!

We watched the leftover "Star Wars Visions" episodes tonight, all this after Mom took a shower and we cleaned up the kitchen.  Maddie was checking out the new LEGO Star Wars characters I picked up for her yesterday, the ones that were on sale because it was Star Wars Day.

We did have taekwondo tonight, but we only made it to black belt class.  This is because of all the trouble on Browns Bridge Road tonight.  There were a few accidents to start with, pouring rain, and then there was a situation that involved over twenty police officers, a stand-off, and negotiations.  Fortunately, and we're all happy about this, the negotiating worked.  There was no violence in the end.  But the road was completely closed.  It was a long few hours for those who lived nearby - no one was going anywhere on that road.

But we did find a way around and we did make it to one class.  Maddie is counting down the days of her first degree black belt status, moving closer and closer to second-degree black belt, or 2BD.  Second Black Belt Decided.

Tonight we read, and we're slowly starting to figure things out in this book although I've gotten slightly confused about characters - I may have to re-read portions of this current book, but nevertheless we're enjoying it.  This recent chapter featured the original Kingdom Keepers and the return of Storey Ming, which was fun to see.  Anyway, we read tonight, and then of course we prayed.  Time for bed - Maddie's got a quieter day tomorrow, but there's a lot of school work left to be done.
