Vampire Penguin

Tonight we went to a place called Vampire Penguin.  It was pretty neat - this is a shaved ice cream restaurant in Cumming, and it had a nice balcony area to sit outside together to enjoy dessert together.  We actually went to get some fish and chips first, getting them from the British shop across the street, and then afterwards a nice dessert.

What was the occasion?  Summer Xtreme planning.  We were having a group meeting together, a planning meeting that sort of worked out what the story would be for our Summer Xtreme skits upcoming.  It was a small enough group, with Camille, Chris, Daniel, Eliza, Maddie, Dawn and myself there, and I felt like it was just enough people to be not too crowded and something nice to let everyone contribute and have a nice time together.  It was really pleasant.  It was also not too crowded there in this area, a new built-up section of town called the City Center.

There was a nice playground area outside, one with musical instruments there, mostly percussive of course.  But the harmonies on the xylophones were really nice, and it was so quiet there - Camille, Chris, Maddie and I were sitting there at dusk, playing notes and just fooling around the area for a little while before going to our cars to go home.

It was a nice evening though.  Maddie had the Polynesian ice cream, and I had the tiramisu flavor, and it was light and not too heavy, and yet delicious!

We had a good day together.  Maddie has just one more week of school, so you can see where her focus is.    Mom did such a great job today, making the back deck look so good.  She was power washing the whole deck and getting the furniture out and in place.  With the canopy up, it's a great place to sit at night and just rest while listening to the birds.  In the cool of the morning, it's a really nice spot, listening to all the chatter from birds in the forest.  We even heard the familiar thrum of the wings of a hummingbird, and sure enough, we finally spotted our first one.  He's probably been here a few times that we just missed, but we saw a ruby-throated hummingbird drop in for a few pretty long drinks from our humming bird feeder.

Mom made me some excellent coffee today, some Mudslide Boogie.  It's another Bones Coffee drink, a brand of coffee we've been getting a lot of, and it's been great sampling all these different flavors.  This one has Oogie Boogie on the package, and the overall flavor is really good.  Our favorite is still Frog's Breath though!

We did our reading tonight, and unfortunately the earth is about to explode.  But that's just the start of "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," a fun read that we're both enjoying a lot.  Mom listens in too, but she's also getting things ready for tomorrow's lunch.  Not too many more times for that - only about a week of school left!  We said our prayers tonight after that, it was time for some rest.  It was a really nice night.
