Tonight we met Mr. Reed, Madison's new teacher for fifth grade. It was open house night, which meant the usual routine of going to the school, and filling out about thirty-five pounds of paperwork. Actually, tonight wasn't so bad. The classroom isn't that far from Madison's classroom last year. We met Mr. Reed, the home room teacher, and Madison's other teachers as well, who all seemed pretty nice. She has three in all, before you start including the art, music and science teachers that cycle through the week. It was a nice evening, and a quiet one too. It might have been because of the Imperial presence.
Yes, they were a "force" to be reckoned with. Fear will keep these school systems in line. Actually, this wasn't the student he was looking for. He can go about his business. Move along.
After Open House, we went to Texas Roadhouse to make slime. Okay, that wasn't the reason we ate there, but it just so happened that it was Kids Night Out.
Apparently, each week they do a different craft somewhere off to the side. My thinking was that they'd do something Texas-sized, or armadillo-ish, kind-of-cowboy, or at least steak-like. But no, the kids there made slime. Madison needs more slime in her life, that's what we were thinking! She's made slime about five times this summer so far, so why not end the summer break with one more dosage of slime? This time, she made this pink and glittery slime, which was apparently themed with "Moana" and the crab character named Tamatoa. Because... well, I don't know. I think the slime was shiny? That's the name of the song Tamatoa sings, "Shiny." Which is now stuck in my head.
Regardless, the meal was good, and we came home with more than a bag of pink shiny slime. We came home with full tummies. We even got to sit in Willie Nelson's corner, or Willie's Corner for short. Madison has no idea who Willie Nelson is, so along with our seats came a history lesson, which was helped along by all the photographs on the table and in that corner. Evidently Willie Nelson has a place of honor in the Texas Roadhouse.
We got home, and in the spirit of getting to bed earlier, it was movie time, some reading, and bedtime. The movie of choice was "Spider-Man 3," which has some history with Madison's adoption. It was the movie playing in the hotel room on the only English channel, just before we went to go meet Madison for the first time. Mommy was taking a bath and preparing for the big moment, and Daddy was just sitting there on the bed, watching Spider-Man battle Sandman and Venom and Hobgoblin and producers with bad ideas about what direction to take the story. Madison agreed that it wasn't her favorite Spider-Man movie - "Spider-Man: Homecoming" still holds that title. But she did really like "Spider-Man 2," and if she didn't, of course we'd have to disown her. No, just kidding, obviously.
Tonight's books of choice were our devotional, and then a bit from the Arendelle Cup. This is a race that Elsa and Anna are hosting, one where sled racers from surrounding countries come to compete for first prize. Already, the Weselton delegation is causing trouble, and suspicion. We'll see how things go, but Madison is still enjoying these younger reader books. Which of course is a thrill to Daddy, who thinks she's growing up way too fast...!
