We got some more bad news today, about an employee friend of ours that is retiring. We've worked side by side for over ten years, but now it's time for yet another goodbye. This, when tied to yesterday's news, created quite the gloomy atmosphere for the day, though Madison was of course just fine with all things going on. Daddy missed out on her today, pretty much - he worked late through the day with emergency meetings, and then it was time to go meet Mrs. Pam over at her place. We start piano classes next week once again, a new season starting! Daddy sort of went over a lot of the things we'd be covering over the course of the year, and looking at various dates of certain events and holidays. More recitals, and of course more challenging piano pieces.
Daddy came home, exhausted. But Madison was ready to play some games, so we had some of that. And we got her homework assignment all together too. She was to put several items into a paper bag, each one of those items related to a bit of information about herself. One example would be a place she's been: she put a LEGO figure in there to spark the conversation about visiting Legoland in Florida. She also put a China-shaped magnet in there, and will use that to tell the class one unique thing about her family: that she's adopted from China.
We got a picture today, it's a picture of Madison on the first day of school, in class. The teacher was nice enough to send home pictures of each of the students on their first day. This will be a neat one to add to the collection. We're already liking this teacher, of course - and in just a few days we'll meet once more for Curriculum Night. They do quite a bit to partner with parents at the school, which is quite nice.
The rain came late tonight, but it did come. Although it wasn't anywhere near the amount of the previous few days. No deluges tonight. The weather is getting noticeably cooler too. Someone needs to remind the weather that it is still not even halfway through August yet! Already, we're planning the apple trip, where we go to Ellijay to pick fresh apples off the tree. Mommy looked up the schedule, and we'll probably head out there at the end of the month, even before September starts. We don't want to rush ahead on fall though - we still have Labor Day around the corner. That, by the way, will be spent here at the house this year. We did the museum thing earlier last month when we went to the one in Gainesville, Florida. So we got our "museum fix" this year already - this ends the "going to a museum on Labor Day" trend we've kept up the past two years. Speaking of museums, the latest "Night at the Museum 3" trailer is out, and the movie looks good. Considering yesterday's awful news, we imagine this movie will have quite an opening, with all of us wanting to laugh just once more. It's still a very sad day though. Collectively across the social media, it's all anyone is still talking about. It's all that's being talked about at the office, with friends, co-workers and relatives. It has completely captivated the nation, and probably beyond. For a life to have this sort of effect is something staggering - where for days on end the nation and the world mourns.
And yet war drags on elsewhere, racial tensions are rising in Missouri, and evil rampages across the Middle East. It certainly has been a gloomy Tuesday.
